After going through a countless number of leaks, the OnePlus 6T is now official and it's way better than the OnePlus 6. The OnePlus 6T succeeds the OnePlus 6 and features an in-display fingerprint scanner, bigger battery, slightly larger display, and of course, upgraded cameras. Right now, the phone has been launched in the United States, but in India, the launch event is scheduled for tomorrow, where the official Indian price will be revealed. For the OnePlus 6T, the company has inked a deal with T-Mobile- its first yet carrier partnership in the United States. The 6T comes in two colours- Midnight Black and Mirror Black, but as always, OnePlus might launch various new colour options in the future. The phone starts at $549 in the US and comes in three variants like the OnePlus 6.

OnePlus 6T: Complete Specifications and Features

Moving onto the specifications of the new smartphone, it flaunts a slightly larger 6.41-inch Full HD+ Optic AMOLED display on the front with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. The OnePlus 6T becomes the second smartphone after Oppo R17 to launch with the latest Gorilla Glass 6, and basically, it's the first one to launch globally. Underneath, the 6T comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, clubbed with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of internal storage. As always, OnePlus did not add a microSD card slot on the 6T, which means you can't expand storage. The 6T has a teardrop style notch on the front.

The biggest change on the OnePlus 6T when compared to the OnePlus 6 is the in-display fingerprint scanner. OnePlus says the in-display scanner on the 6T is the fastest one we have seen on any smartphone till date. The phone lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack too, but this allowed OnePlus to pack a bigger 3700mAh battery inside and it has 20W fast charging. OnePlus is no more touting its fast charge technology as Dash Charge because it ran into some regulatory issues recently.

Like the OnePlus 6, the 6T also lacks official IP rating and wireless charging. On paper, the OnePlus 6T sports similar cameras as the OnePlus 6, but the company has tweaked the software to provide better low-light images this time around. Talking about the camera hardware, the 6T has a primary 16MP shooter on the back with 1.22um and f/1.7 aperture, which works in tandem with a 20MP secondary sensor with f/2.0 aperture. OnePlus is adding a new feature called 'NightScape' which helps in better low-light images, but it doesn't match the Night Sight mode on the Pixel 3 which has been making headlines in recent times. OnePlus also improved the portrait mode on the 6T. Notably, the NightScape mode is coming to the OnePlus 6 with a software update later this week.

Software side of things, the OnePlus 6T boots Android 9 Pie out of the box. Since the OnePlus 6 already received Android 9 Pie update, it doesn't come as a surprise to see the 6T coming with the latest iteration of Android. After Huawei and Sony, OnePlus becomes the third manufacturer to release a smartphone with Android 9 Pie out of the box. To recall, the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro arrived with Pie a couple of weeks ago.

OnePlus 6T: Pricing and Availability

As mentioned above, the Indian pricing of the OnePlus 6T will be revealed tomorrow. But in the US, the base variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage will be available for $549 (approx. Rs 40,400); the 8GB RAM variant with 128GB of storage will retail for $579 (approx. Rs 42,600). Lastly, the premium variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage can be purchased for $629 (approx. Rs 46,300). The 6T will initially be available in two colour options- Midnight Black and Mirror Black.

OnePlus 6T vs OnePlus 6: What Has Changed in Six Months?

While six months is a small period for us, it's a massive time for OnePlus to bring a whole new smartphone with a host of new features. The biggest changes between the OnePlus 6 and 6T are the in-display fingerprint scanner, removal of 3.5mm headphone jack, slightly bigger 3700mAh battery and the teardrop notch. There are some new camera features and it comes with Android 9 Pie.
