OnePlus 6T is real and it might be launching on October 17 with an in-display fingerprint scanner. According to an email sent to CNET by OnePlus, the OnePlus 6T will surely have an in-display fingerprint scanner, and in the United States, it will be exclusive to T-Mobile. OnePlus has been working on sticking a deal with a US carrier and it could become a reality with the OnePlus 6T. Other rumoured features on the OnePlus 6T include triple rear cameras, slightly bigger battery, but the major highlighting aspect would the fingerprint-on-display. OnePlus believes that it will give an additional option for its users to unlock the device by just lifting the handset.
Fingerprint-on-Display for the OnePlus 6T
In the past, we have seen various smartphones using the in-display fingerprint scanners, but the OnePlus 6T will be the company's first device to come with the futuristic mechanism. Smartphone brands such as Vivo, Oppo, Huawei, Xiaomi- all have used in-display scanners on their smartphones, and it's now turn of OnePlus to make use of the technology.
OnePlus also confirmed to CNET that the in-display fingerprint scanning technology was not ready for mainstream usage when it launched the OnePlus 6, that's why they went with a physical scanner. Recently, Vivo stated that the in-display scanner used by it on the V11 Pro is the 4th Gen scanner, which unlocks the device as fast as the physical fingerprint scanner. So OnePlus is now in a mindset to equip the technology on its OnePlus 6T.
"We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action," said OnePlus in an email to CNET.
OnePlus 6T Will Be Thicker Than the OnePlus 6
Thanks to the in-display fingerprint scanner, the OnePlus 6T will be thicker by 0.45mm, which means it will be 8.25mm thick. Furthermore, OnePlus believes that the overall look of the device will be more unibody because there won't be any physical fingerprint scanner on the rear side.
That being said, the OnePlus 6T will still have the glass body, same as the OnePlus 6. And the usage of the in-display fingerprint scanner means the panel will be an AMOLED.
OnePlus 6T: Expected Price and Specifications
The OnePlus 6T is shaping up to be a major upgrade over the OnePlus 6. Besides the in-display fingerprint scanning technology, the 6T will have triple cameras on the rear side, same as the Huawei P20 Pro and the upcoming LG V35. It will still be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, clubbed with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage.
Other rumoured features include a tiny waterdrop notch on top of the display, resulting in higher screen-to-body ratio. It might have a larger battery, but a marginal bump in the capacity though. It would be interesting to see if the OnePlus 6T comes out with Android 9 Pie out of the box.
