OnePlus has been in the news once again as the launch of its latest phone; the OnePlus 6T draws near. The Chinese manufacturer impressed a lot of phone buyers with the OnePlus 6 earlier this year. With this new upgrade, OnePlus seeks to bring a lot of design and hardware improvements to its previous model. Before the global launch of the phone which is scheduled to happen on October 30, OnePlus’ resident software expert Syzmon K and User Experience Lead Crayon Hsieh resorted to the official OnePlus forum to answer questions about this new device. Below we have noted down the top highlights of the upcoming OnePlus 6T.

OnePlus 6T to Debut with Android 9 Pie Based OxygenOS

OnePlus launched the OnePlus 5T with Android Nougat 7.1.1 powered OxygenOS and the phone was quick to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update in January this year. The next phone, OnePlus 6T debuted with Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, and apart from Essential phone and HMD Global devices, the phone was one of the few to receive the latest Android 9 Pie based OxygenOS update. The OnePlus 6T users in China also started receiving the HydrogenOS update earlier this week.

With this announcement, we are sure that OnePlus is being serious about the software which it is shipping with its phones. OnePlus is going to be ahead of other OEM manufacturers since other brands are expected to ship the Android 9 Pie update to their devices only in next year.

OnePlus 6T with New Gesture Based Navigation System

The OnePlus 6T will also improve upon the gesture-based navigation system which it currently ships. On the OnePlus 6T, users will be able to switch between apps quickly and two recently used apps with a swipe from the bottom of the screen towards the right side of the screen. The OnePlus 6T will also come with shortcut access to the Google Assistant, something which is not present on the OnePlus 6. Users will need to hold the power button for half a second to summon the Google Assistant. The OnePlus employees also informed that since the OnePlus 6T comes with a tall form factor, the company has implemented a lot of full-screen gestures with each swipe being tested more than 1,000 times to ensure that the gesture feels natural.

There are also expected to be some bumps in the imaging and camera quality from the software side. Although the OnePlus 6T will come with an identical camera bearing 16MP+20MP sensors on the back, there are going to be some tweaks which will make the shooting experience on OnePlus 6T better. Further, OnePlus will be emphasising ‘FSE’ meaning that the new phone is going to be Faster, Smooth and Efficient as compared to the predecessor. There are also going to be the common Android 9 Pie features like the ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode.
