The OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro were released this month, and the fans of the brand have been excited about the new features that these devices come with. Of course, a lot of the unique quirks that these two phones bring has been due to the latest OxygenOS. The new phones come with OxygenOS 9.5, and they are also receiving the most recent Android Q Open Beta update as well. The new OxygenOS is not only good news for the users of the latest OnePlus flagship, but other previous gen OnePlus devices will benefit from it as well. We have already heard about the update for the penultimate OnePlus devices, the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T receiving this update and now we are getting to know that the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T would also be getting Android Q.

OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T Android Q Update Details

To recall, the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T were launched back in 2017, and that time they booted Android Nougat out of the box. However, they were then updated to Android Oreo and Android Pie. Now, in a new development, OnePlus has announced that these two phones will also be getting Android Q as well in the coming months. OnePlus has made this news official by writing about it in an official OnePlus forum post.

This post in the OnePlus forum also revealed that courtesy of these updates, OnePlus 5 series and OnePlus 6 series of smartphones would get the latest features off the top which would include Fnatic mode, Zen Mode and native screen recorder. The list of features also mentions Quick Reply in Landscape, DC Dimming, and RAM Boost. Now although we know that OnePlus will be pushing the Android Q update to OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T, it has not yet revealed any timelines about the same.

There is no doubt that this is good news for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users since both of these phones had managed to sell a lot of units in India and were fairly popular at the time of their release. They were also the flagbearers for OnePlus’ new design implementations. The OnePlus 5T was the first phone to come with an 18:9 aspect ratio screen and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The Snapdragon 835 chipset powered both of these phones, and they sported dual rear cameras and packed 3,300mAh battery with support for 20W fast charging.

Android Q Features

The upcoming version of Android has been hinted to come with a lot of new exciting features in the Google I/O conference of 2019. Google has announced that the Android Q would bring a system-wide dark mode, alongside smarter reply options and increased privacy to restrict apps from starting in the background, accessing private data and more.
