OnePlus 5, 5T Gets New OxygenOS Open Beta Build With June Security Patches and Camera Enhancements

OnePlus has started rolling out a new OxygenOS Open Beta build to its 2017 flagship smartphones- the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T. Both the smartphones are already on Android 8.1 Oreo, and the new build is on the same iteration of Android. While the OnePlus 5 receives Open Beta 12 version, the OnePlus 5T gets bumped to Open Beta 10. But the features in both the versions remain the same. The new version brings the latest June security patches along with some improvements to OnePlus Switch application and camera. This update will be available for the OnePlus users who're already in the Open Beta program. Users with Open Beta ROM installed on their OnePlus 5 or 5T will receive an OTA update, while users on the OxygenOS stable version will have to manually flash the ROM package by downloading it.

Digging deep into the latest OxygenOS Open Beta build, OnePlus says it has improved the camera clarity and optimised to reduce the "oil painting effect." Since the launch of the OnePlus 5T, users have been complaining about the oil painting effect in the photos and OnePlus has been addressing the issue since then. With this update, users will notice some data transfer stability improvements on the OnePlus Switch application.

For the unaware, OnePlus releases an Open Beta build every month (possibly, the last three months has seen a release of a new build) with latest security patches, of course, and new features, if any. After testing the ROM with its community members, OnePlus rolls out the same features to the OxygenOS stable version.

OnePlus is yet to release an Open Beta program for its latest smartphone OnePlus 6, but instead, it already released Android P for the smartphone.

As always with OnePlus OTA updates, today's update is also an incremental one, so the chances are that you may not get it today. If you're keen in installing the update right away, connect to some VPN application and change your location to Germany or Canada to get the OTA right away.
