OnePlus has confirmed that it will be rolling out Face Unlock feature to the OnePlus 3 and 3T via an OxygenOS Open Beta build very soon. This news was confirmed by the company's co-founder Carl Pei during an interview with CNET. A few weeks back, Carl Pei asked OnePlus 3 and 3T users on Twitter to make some sound so that they can roll out the Face Unlock feature to both the phones. Speaking with the publication, he said that there's no reason to delay features which they can easily implement.
Face Unlock feature was first introduced by OnePlus with the OnePlus 5T, which later on made its way to the OnePlus 5. And now, the company promised to roll out the feature to its 2016 flagship smartphones. As stated, OnePlus will be rolling out the feature in the next OxygenOS Open Beta build, so if you're already on the Open Beta program, then wait for the next OTA update to appear on your OnePlus 3 or 3T.
In the first week of January, OnePlus rolled out the Face Unlock feature to the OnePlus 5, but it is yet to make into the stable build of OxygenOS though.
The OnePlus 5T was launched in November 2017 and brought the Face Unlock feature with it. Since then, many top smartphone brands such as Oppo, Vivo, Honor, etc. have started implementing the Face Unlock feature on their smartphones.
In fact, Apple started the trend with the Face ID on the iPhone X, however, Apple's implementation is based on both hardware and software for accuracy. What made the Face Unlock on OnePlus 5T is the insanely fast unlocking speed. Also, Face Unlock is possibly the best and easiest way to unlock a smartphone. Recently, OnePlus also added Assistive Lighting feature to the OnePlus 5T recently, which makes the screen to act as a flashlight during low-light conditions. This allows the front-facing camera to recognise the face when the light is low.
