Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) 's "effective" management of telecom and mobile services and communication support to Odisha Government while the cyclonic storm Phailin, which hit the state's coast on October 12, has earned praise from the Odisha State Governments, official sources said.
J K Moahpatra, Cheif Secretary, Govt of Odisha, said " I Wish to place on record the excellent support provide by BSNL under the effective leadership of N. K. Bhoi , CGMT, BSNL Odisha, for efficient management of cyclone Phailin. As a matter of fact, robustness of the telecom infrastructure of BSNL in the very severely affected districts such as Ganjam, Khurda, Puri and Jagatsinghpur assisted us in no small measure in serving precious human lives and managing this major disaster."
Speaking with TelecomTALK, N K Bhoi, CGMT ( Circle Head ) BSNL, Odisha, said "BSNL was the one of telecom network in Odisha, working fine in all severely affected urban and remote areas due to our team work, preparedness and magnificent management of mobile network during the devastating cyclone Phalin."
"In most parts of the affected districts and also at HQ, the BSNL network has enabled the Government of Odisha to save precious human lives and minimise the damages well in time" he added.
BSNL mobile phones, which were working in most of the areas despite adverse weather conditions, also helped us a lot to connect with people and disaster management staff, BSNL Mobile phones also helped many to get up-to-date information about the severe weather conditions.
BSNL sent weather update SMSes to 1.5 million people, mostly in the coastal belt, on Oct 11 and 12 and also arrange SMS alerts to some 150 people, mostly top functionaries of the government, railways and airport officials updating them about the weather conditions.
