HMD Global has been launching phones in close proximity this season. The Finnish giant recently launched the Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus in the country, and they offer amazing design, build and specifications. The Nokia phones come with Zeiss optics lens which offers impressive shooting capability along with the Stock Android experience and Android One Certification. Recently, in China, HMD Global has launched the Nokia X7, which is expected to come to India after a few weeks with a new name of Nokia 7.1 Plus. The phone is said to be a successor to the Nokia 7 Plus which had previously debuted in India with a mid-range price tag. Below we make a detailed comparison between the previous Nokia 7 Plus and the newly launched Nokia X7 and see what the changes that Nokia has made between the two generations of smartphones.
Design
The new Nokia X7 or the Nokia 7.1 Plus comes off as an amalgamation of the design of the Nokia 7.1 and the Nokia 7 Plus. The phone comes sandwiched between glass on the front and back along with chamfered edges and like other HMD Global phones it has been carved out of Series 6000 aluminium frame that is flat rather than rounded. We also get to see the edge to edge display on this phone, along with a notch on top and a chin on the bottom.
As for the screen, the Nokia X7 of the 7.1 Plus sports a 6.18-inch display with an Full HD+ resolution. Unlike the display on the Nokia 7 Plus which is a standard IPS panel, the newly launched phone comes with Pure Display technology. As per the company’s claims, this new tech supports HDR 10 and also improves the contrast and colours.
Another difference between the two phones is the absence of front and glass back on the Nokia 7 Plus which are present on the Nokia X7. Overall, both the phones offer a smooth and elegant design which hide the antenna lines on the rear side. There are also copper or silver accents on the phone on the sides, camera module and the fingerprint sensor.
Performance, Specifications and Camera
In terms of performance, the Nokia X7 positively races past the Nokia 7 Plus on paper by sporting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 as opposed to the Snapdragon 660 which we get to see on the Nokia 7 Plus. Since we haven’t seen the Snapdragon 710 in India yet, there is not much to say about how much substance will the new processor add to the phone when it comes to delivering performance. Given that the Nokia X7 or the Nokia 7.1 Plus will pair the Snapdragon 710 with 6GB RAM will translate to similar if not better performance when compared to the predecessor.
On the software front, the Nokia X7 will come with Android Oreo out the box and with an Android One certifications meaning that users will be able to receive the latest security patches and quick updates for the OS.
On the camera and imaging front, the Nokia X7 and the Nokia 7 Plus sport similar Zeiss Optics setup. The Nokia 7 Plus comes with a dual rear-setup comprising of a 12MP primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.75 Dual Pixel autofocus, and another 13MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. The Nokia X7 gets a slight step up with a 13MP primary camera with an IMX363 sensor having a f/1.8 aperture and 1.4-micron pixels, and a 12MP secondary sensor. The Nokia X7 also comes with OIS + EIS support which we do not get to see on the Nokia 7 Plus.
The Nokia X7 falls a little short on the battery front as it comes with a 3500mAh unit as opposed to the 3800mAh unit which we get to see on the Nokia 7 Plus.
Nokia X7: Expected Pricing in India
During the initial release of the phone, the Nokia 7 Plus came with a price tag of Rs 25,999 and when the Nokia X7 makes its way to India as the Nokia 7.1 Plus it is expected to replace the Nokia 7 Plus with a similar mid-range price tag. But HMD may not bring the Nokia X7 to India until next year, which will be a disappointment.
