Nokia 9 PureView Finally Gets Android 10 Update

HMD Global is now rolling out the much-awaited Android 10 update to Nokia 9 PureView smartphone owners. Usually, smartphone brands push the latest Android update to their flagship smartphones first, but HMD Global's strategy is a bit different. The Finnish upstart always rolls out the update to a mid-range smartphone first before seeding the same to its flagship phone. For example, in 2018, the Android 9 Pie update was first pushed to Nokia 7 Plus before the Nokia 8. And this year, the Nokia 8.1 was the brand's first phone to get Android 10 update and it's now followed by its current flagship phone Nokia 9 PureView. That said, the Nokia 9 PureView is the brand' second phone to get the Android 10 update, which is rather surprising considering the Android 9 Pie rollout to Nokia phones last year.

Nokia 9 PureView Android 10 Update: What's New?

The Nokia 9 PureView is HMD Global's current flagship handset and it was the world's first phone to feature Penta-camera setup on the back. HMD Global says the Android 10 update for Nokia 9 PureView brings Smart Reply, new Gesture Navigation, Dark theme, brand new privacy & location controls, security updates and family link. Notably, the update also adds December 2019 security patches to the Nokia 9 PureView. Being an Android One smartphone, the Nokia 9 PureView's Android 10 update will be very much close to stock Android.

HMD Global says the update has been released today and it will gradually reach every Nokia 9 PureView unit over the next two-three weeks.

As for the hardware specs, the Nokia 9 PureView sports a 5.99-inch Quad HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Underneath, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The USP of the Nokia 9 PureView is its Penta-camera system on the rear side; The phone flaunts five 12MP sensors along with 20MP front-facing shooter. It has wireless charging support and a 3320mAh battery backs the entire package. The Nokia 9 PureView is currently available at Rs 49,999 in the Indian market.

Nokia 8.2 Launching Later Today

In other news, HMD Global is all set to introduce a new family member to its ever-growing Nokia lineup. Right now, we don't have many details regarding the upcoming Nokia smartphone. In fact, the launch event will begin at 10:30 PM today in Cairo. Going by the leaks, the yet-to-be-launched Nokia smartphone is said to be the Nokia 8.2- a successor to the Nokia 8.1.

The Nokia 8.2 will be a mid-range smartphone and it's expected to come with the newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC. At the MWC 2020 tech show, HMD Global will likely announce the same Nokia 8.2 smartphone with 5G support. But for today, we could see only the 4G variant of the Nokia 8.2 launching. Besides the Nokia 8.2, other phones like the Nokia 2.3 and the Nokia 5.3 are also expected to debut at the same event.

All three phones may reach the Indian market by the end of December 2019 or in early 2020. The Nokia 8.1 is currently available at just Rs 15,990 and it will be interesting to see how HMD Global prices the Nokia 8.2 when it reaches the Indian market.
