Nokia 2.2 With Android One and Dedicated Google Assistant Button Launched at Rs 6,999

Nokia 2.2 is the newest member in the Nokia smartphone lineup. HMD Global today unveiled the Nokia 2.2 in India at Rs 6,999. Coming as a successor to the Nokia 2.1, the Nokia 2.2 is not part of Android Go family, instead, it's the first Nokia 2 series smartphone to run Android One software out of the box. Like all the recently launched Nokia smartphones, the Nokia 2.2 also comes with a dedicated Google Assistant hardware button and it comes powered by the Helio A22 chipset which we saw on the Xiaomi Redmi 6A whose prices start at Rs 5,999 in India. HMD Global states the Rs 6,999 price tag of Nokia 2.2 is a limited period one; Once the offer ends, the Nokia 2.2 will be available for Rs 7,699 and it comes in two variants with up to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.




Nokia 2.2: Specifications and Features

Moving onto the hardware specifications, the Nokia 2.2 rocks a 5.71-inch HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio and a teardrop notch display. Underneath, it has the MediaTek Helio A22 chipset, paired with 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of onboard storage. There's a microSD card slot which allows users to expand storage up to 400GB. As noted, the Nokia 2.2 also comes with a dedicated hardware button for Google Assistant. We saw the same implementation on smartphones like Nokia 3.2 and Nokia 4.2 which were launched in India recently.

Cameras on the Nokia 2.2 include a 13MP shooter on the rear side followed by a 5MP selfie camera on the front. The camera app has support for Google Lens. The Nokia 2.2 is the first Nokia 2 series phone to boot Android One software and it runs Android 9 Pie out of the box. That said, HMD Global even confirmed that the Nokia 2.2 is Android Q ready.

Connectivity options on the Nokia 2.2 include 4G VoLTE, Dual 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and Micro USB port. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Unlike the Nokia 2.1 which arrived with a beefy 4000mAh battery, the Nokia 2.2 comes with a smaller 3000mAh unit.

Nokia 2.2: Pricing and Availability in India

HMD Global has launched the Nokia 2.2 in two colour options- Tungsten Black and Steel. As an introductory offer, the Nokia 2.2's base variant with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage will be available for Rs 6,999, while the 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage model can be purchased for Rs 7,999. Once the introductory offer ends on June 30, the Nokia 2.2's base variant can be purchased for Rs 7,699, whereas the premium variant can be picked up for Rs 8,699.

The smartphone will be available pan-India across top mobile retail outlets and online on Flipkart and Nokia.com/phones starting June 11, 2019. Consumers can pre-book on Nokia.com/phones starting from June 6 to June 10.

Additionally, Reliance Jio customers purchasing the Nokia 2.2 will get instant cashback of Rs 2,200 along with 100GB extra data. Cashback and additional data offer will be applicable on Rs 198, Rs 299 recharges.
