MTNL Launches Prepaid Broadband Service In MumbaiMahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), the largest broadband service provider of Mumbai  today announced the launch of  its Prepaid Broadband Services for residential and enterprise customers in Mumbai in association with Sterlite Technologies Limited, a leading global provider of transmission solutions for the telecom and power industries,

This unique service would give MTNL clients the flexibility to instantly customize their broadband subscription plans, based on their self-estimated bandwidth usage.




When MTNL launched its Postpaid Broadband services on the latest technology (ADSL 2+), people were skeptical as it was the latest in the world and MTNL was the second company in the world to launch this technology. Today, MTNL account for over 90 per cent of the total Broadband Market in Delhi and Mumbai and it adds Rs 450 crore per annum to its revenue. MTNL is also responsible for bringing down broadband tariffs in Mumbai and Delhi.

Sterlite’s deployment of the Prepaid Broadband Solution for MTNL supports the operator’s leadership in the competitive market of Mumbai telecom circle. It leverages common network hardware & software assets to provide MTNL with network scalability.

The broadband connections are being provided on demand in almost all the areas of Mumbai. We have introduced many customer friendly plans in postpaid broadband from time to time and the prepaid broadband will be another customer friendly initiative which will give flexibility to customers to control their usage. I am confident that prepaid scheme will also be as popular as existing broadband plans.”

The prepaid solution deployment is part of a broadband project by MTNL in Mumbai, under which Sterlite Technologies is providing an end-to-end solution that includes OSS/BSS. Sterlite’s scope of services for this project includes project management, installation and deployment, network operations, network maintenance, integration and testing.

Sterlite has also partnered with MTNL in implementation of several key technology platforms in Mumbai and New Delhi, that include MPLS Core Network, Metro-Ethernet Broadband + OSS/BSS, NGN / IPTAX.
