Motorola is yet to announce a new smartphone in 2018, but it seems like we're nearing the launch of the Moto G6 series as the smaller variant, the Moto G6 Play has now received certification from Taiwan’s certification agency NCC. Alongside the certification, the agency also revealed some images of the smartphone, revealing the design of the phone. First up, the leaked photos show that the G6 Play will come with 18:9 display, however, the bezels are not as smaller as you would expect. Also, to the front, the Moto branding will be replaced by Motorola. It seems like Lenovo is revising its strategy again.

There's no fingerprint scanner to the front of the phone, so it will be present at the back, in-line with earlier rumours. The Moto dimple, as you can see in the image will house the fingerprint scanner as well. And the rear panel is likely to be made out of glass, but we're not sure on that aspect though. It might also be a plastic back because it has that reflective nature.

The Moto G6 Play will come with a front-facing LED flash, and all the Moto G6 devices are expected to offer the same feature. It will have a single rear camera setup placed in a Saturn ring along with a dual-tone LED flash. The design of the Moto G6 Play resembles the earlier Moto devices, but the addition of 18:9 display will be a welcome move.

The Moto G6 Play will be released alongside the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus smartphones later this month or in early April. For the unaware, the G6 Play was spotted in Geekbench very recently, which revealed all the key specifications of the phone.

The front of the Moto G6 Play will be dominated by a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. It will be fuelled by the Snapdragon 430 SoC, paired with 3GB of RAM. In Geekbench, the G6 Play achieved a single-core score of 472 and a multi-core score of 1801. The device will run Android Oreo out of the box, but in some markets, the device will boot a different skin, and in India, we get stock Android. The phone is expected to be backed by a 4000mAh battery.

Lenovo-owned Motorola is yet to reveal the launch date of the smartphone, but we're expecting it to happen in the next couple of weeks or by the end of this month.
