Xiaomi’s latest MIUI 10 Global ROM has been its best iteration of the MIUIs so far. The Chinese OEM has packaged some of the most wanted features into this ROM and shipped to its latest smartphones. Not only this, but the MIUI 10 gets a lot of other upgrades as well, like a smoother UI and significant changes to the user experience as well. Now, Xiaomi in its official forum has announced that it will be introducing one of the most requested features to its MIUI 10 – the system-wide dark mode. Interestingly, Xiaomi has branded this feature for the Mi users as the ‘Dark Side of MIUI’ and has announced that it has already started rolling out for the supported devices. The Dark Mode on MIUI is currently available only in the latest Global Beta version of MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie. Here's how the Dark Mode on MIUI looks like.

Dark Mode on MIUI 10

As is known of the Dark Mode, this new feature for MIUI users will save them from eye-fatigue while they use their smartphone in the night. Google even openly admitted that dark mode will save battery life.

The feature will also act as an improvement for readability, as it will slightly alter the icons, text colours and other UI elements. The dark mode also slightly boosts the contrast levels on the screen to make the text and icons more legible against the dark background. Xiaomi illustrated that to turn on the dark mode; the users will only have to go to Settings and then go to the Display section, where they will see the Dark Mode toggle. Tapping on “Activate” will apply the system-wide dark mode on their Xiaomi device.

Xiaomi also clarified that the dark mode would currently apply to the Notification shade, Gallery, Settings, Messaging, Dialer, Camera, Contacts, Scanner, Screen Recorder, Recorder, Clock, Compass, Sim toolkit, Contacts, Weather, Mi Video, Notes and rolling to other apps. Xiaomi, in its forum post, has also noted that the feature is currently in development and remains limited only to Android 9 Pie based MIUI 10 Beta ROM versions. The OEM also added that after testing it will be extended to other supported versions as well. We have got a chance to test the feature on Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro.

Xiaomi Also Rolls Out Digital Wellbeing Like Screen Time Feature

Xiaomi has constantly been on the task of upgrading its MIUI with the latest features for its users. Another major feature which we got to see on the latest MIUI 10 Global Beta is a closely resembling feature to the “Digital Wellbeing” called “Screen Time”. There is also no doubt that Xiaomi’s Screen Time is a clone of Android’s Digital Wellbeing and is aimed at helping the users in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and reducing screen time. The feature also informs the users about how much time they spend on their smartphone and on what app. There is also additional information available regarding users’ smartphone usage under Screen Time like the number of times their phone was unlocked, the number of notifications, and how many notifications they received in an hour.

Further, the feature does not only stop at giving out information but users will also be able to set timers with Screen Time to reduce the time spent on their smartphones. When the timer goes off, they will be given the option of either dismissing the notification or snoozing the reminder for an hour. There will also be the option of setting different timers for weekends and weekdays.

As noted, Xiaomi is currently pushing both the features to its smartphones running Android 9 Pie and that too the Global Beta ROM users are receiving it right now.
