According to a recent list which includes the cancellation and registration for Digital Addressable market four of the Multi System Operators (MSOs) license has been cancelled.
The MSOs whose registration has been cancelled includes Chennai-based Jothishankar Annamalai, Mysore-based Mediasix Digital Networks, Kolkata Based Digicable Comm and Thanjavur based Kavery Digital Networks. Kavery Digital Network which was functional in the DAS notified areas of Tamil Nadu took a blow from the MHA as it didn’t manage to get the security clearance by the MHA.
The Jai Maa Vaishno Media was not interested in pursuing with the registration as an MSO and its registration was cancelled subsequently. Provisional license of Jothishankar Annamalai and Mediasix Digital networks which are currently operational in Chennai and Karnataka has been cancelled owing to the Non-operational condition of the MSO.
The Ministry of Information and broadcasting on the other hand have also given green signal for some of the new registration bringing the total tally of the MSOs to 106 as on July 23. The total numbers of MSOs registered with the ministry to carry out operations in the DAS notified areas were 150 out of which some were granted provisional license. The Ministry also cancelled license of 20 MSOs as they failed to prescribe to setup Digital headends.
