Reliance Jio, as promised last month, today started taking registrations for its optical fibre based fixed-line broadband services which it’s going to kick start in the coming days. The Mukesh Ambani-owned telco will take registrations now, and the gigabit broadband service will be rolled out the consumers at a later date. Notably, Jio stated that the service would be offered to the users based on the demand in a particular area. With the Jio GigaFiber broadband service, the company is aiming to cover 1,100 cities over the period of time and at the same, it’s aiming to get 50 million connections in no time. Jio has created a new portal to take the interest of users for getting the service in their area. Initially, the website was buggy, and the submit button wasn’t working, but now, Jio has fixed the issue, and any user can register interest for Jio GigaFiber service.
How to Register for Jio GigaFiber Broadband Service?
As mentioned above, Jio has opened a new portal for taking the interest from the users. If you’re looking to show interest in the service, head over to gigafiber.jio.com and locate yourself in the map. After locating, verify your mobile number to show interest in the upcoming Jio GigaFiber.
“JioGigaFiber. Make your neighbourhood #Gigaready with Gigabit Wi-Fi, GigaTV, smart home, free calling and more,” read the registration option in MyJio App.
What is Jio GigaFiber?
Jio GigaFiber is Jio’s fixed-line broadband service with a promise of download speeds up to 1 Gbps. At present, major rivals of Jio offer download speed up to 100 Mbps for around Rs 1,000 per month for home users. Jio claims to offer around ten times more speed to home users. Though the company has not disclosed its price yet, however, there have been reports that it will trigger a stiff competition among telecom firms.
Along with the normal broadband connection, Jio will also be providing Jio GigaTV which is the company’s IPTV solution and various other smart home solutions. Jio broadbandservice would enable smart-home solutions where hundreds of devices like security cameras, home appliances even lights and switches can be securely controlled by their owners using a smartphone from both inside and outside the home, Ambani said which announcing the service.
Jio Aims to Disrupt the Broadband Segment After Telecom Sector
Jio’s entry in mobile services led to a free voice call for the first time, and data prices dipped by over 95% since the time it commenced services. The service will be launched simultaneously across 1,100 cities for homes, merchants, small and medium enterprises and large enterprises, according to the announcement earlier made by Reliance Jio’s parent firm Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh D Ambani.
“For the home, this will mean ultra high definition entertainment on your large screen televisions, multi-party video conferencing from the comfort of your living room, voice-activated virtual assistants who obey your every command, virtual reality gaming and digital shopping,” Ambani had said.
India jumped to number one in terms of mobile broadband service from its global rank of 150 after the launch of Jio 4G services.
Ambani in his last annual general meeting speech said that India is ranked quite low at 134th in the global ranking for fixed broadband due to poor fixed-line infrastructure.
“In countries with better-developed communication infrastructure, more than 80% of data consumption happens indoors through fixed line connectivity in homes, in offices and other premises…Jio is determined to move India to among the top 5 in fixed-line broadband, too,” Ambani said.
Jio Did Not Reveal GigaFiber Broadband Plans Though
Having said that, Reliance Jio did not reveal the broadband plans of GigaFiber service. The company is just taking consumer’s interest in the service at the moment, and the tariff plans will be announced at a later date. Jio is expected to come up with a Welcome Offer for the users providing three months of broadband service for free. Also, the broadband plans are expected to start at a price of just Rs 500.
