It seems like Indian smartphone brands are launching smartphones, budget devices in particular, for fun. Intex, after launching an array of entry-level smartphones under its Aqua series today announced a new smartphone, called, the Intex Aqua Crystal Plus. Priced at Rs. 6,799, the smartphone will pit against the Xiaomi Redmi 3s.

The Aqua Crystal Plus is a beefed up variant of the Aqua Crystal which was launched earlier this year. Unlike other smartphones in the price range, the Aqua Crystal Plus has a glass, and metal body and the device looks decent for the asking price.

Diving into the specifications of the phone, the Crystal Plus features a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. A MediaTek MT6737 chip powers the device along with a Mali T720 GPU that takes care of the graphics. The smartphone comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.

Optics wise, Intex has added a decent 13MP snapper at the back which also has LED flash support. There’s a 5MP front-facing camera for video calls and capturing selfies. The rear camera can record videos of 1080p quality, whereas the front camera can shoot 720p videos.

The key feature of the phone is that it boots Android 7.0 Nougat straight out-of-the-box but comes with a small 2100mAh battery, which could be a huge let down as the Redmi 3s has a beefy 4100mAh battery.

Intex has included all the basic connectivity options such as 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and USB OTG. Also, the phone is not officially announced by the company yet, but it’s listed on Intex’s website, which means that it’s already up for sale in the country.

The Intex Aqua Crystal Plus scores big on the design, but the specifications don’t inspire confidence on paper.
