HTC has already sent out media invites for an event to be held on May 23 where the company is expected to launch the HTC U12+ smartphone. Ahead of the launch, complete specifications of the smartphone have surfaced online, courtesy of tipster Evan Blass. These specs are coming from the sheet given to the reviewers under the embargo program, so they'd be the final specs of the device. For starters, the HTC U12+ is a successor to last year's HTC U11+ smartphone that was launched just six months ago. The U12+ will be the company's first flagship smartphone of 2018 and as expected, it will boast of flagship specifications. The spec sheet shows that the device will have a Liquid Surface design, which was rumoured in the past too, but the details on the design are bleak at the moment.

The page also says the phone comes with new pressure-sensitive buttons and a new touch feedback experience. The phone measures 8.7-9.9mm in thickness and weighs 188grams, so it's nearly confirmed to sport glass body at the back. Internally, it will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform, mated with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, depending on the region. The phone will sport a 6-inch Quad HD+ Super LCD 6 display and comes protected by Corning Gorilla Glass technology. The display will also have HDR 10 support, and there will be smart display for notifications.

Cameras on the U12+ include a 12MP primary UltraPixel 4 wide-angle sensor at the back, paired with a 16MP telephoto camera. The primary sensor features f/1.75 aperture, and the secondary sensor comes with f/2.6 aperture. The cameras on the smartphone also offer OIS, HDR Boost 2, AR Stickers and several other features. HTC has added two cameras on the front too- both 8MP sensors. The rear and front cameras offer Bokeh mode.

HTC Specs

The HTC U12+ boots Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and it will be upgradeable to Android P. Like the HTC U11, it also features the Edge Sensor, and this time around, HTC is calling it as HTC Edge Sense 2 with support for controlling apps or phone by squeezing it. The phone offers HTC USonic with Active Noise Cancellation and HTC BoomSound Audio too.

Rest of the specifications include a 3500mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. The device will support LTE on both the SIM cards and the fingerprint scanner will be on the rear side. HTC will be adding both the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa on the smartphone to make it competitive.

The spec-sheet of the HTC U12+ is in-line with other flagship smartphones available in the market, but the Liquid Surface is something we're very excited to check out.
