Huawei and its sub-brand Honor has got back in the smartphone business last year as both the brands launched some of the very popular smartphones of the year. 2019 has also started off pretty well for Huawei and Honor. Huawei recently launched the Y9 (2018) while Honor launched the Honor 10 Lite in India. Interestingly with both the smartphones the respective companies are aiming to take on the likes of some of the very popular budget segment smartphones like Redmi Note 6 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2, Realme 2 Pro, among others.

The Honor 10 Lite has been launched at the same price as the Redmi Note 6 Pro, at Rs 13,999. The Huawei Y9 (2019), on the other hand, is now available for Rs 15,990. Let’s take a quick look at what both of these smartphones offer to the consumers and which one is a better buy for around Rs 15,000.

Honor 10 Lite vs Huawei Y9 (2019): Display

The Huawei Y9 (2019) comes with a bigger screen than the Honor 10 Lite. The Huawei Y9 (2019) comes packed with a 6.5-inch FHD+ display with screen resolution of 2340x1080 pixels and aspect ratio of 19.5:9. In comparison, the Honor 10 Lite includes a 6.21-inch LCD display with Full HD+ resolution of 2340x1080 pixels. Also, both the smartphones feature a glass back which make them look premium in the mid-range segment.

The Honor 10 Lite is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Kirin 710 chipset paired with up to 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The base model comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage while the top-end model of the phone includes 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The Huawei Y9 (2019) is also powered by the same 2.2GHz octa-core Kirin 710 chipset. The Honor 10 Lite like some previously launched Honor phones also comes with GPU Turbo support. The phone comes in one variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage which is further expandable via micro SD card. The Honor 10 Lite is backed by a 3400mAh battery while the Huawei Y9 2019 is backed by a 4000mAh battery.

Honor 10 Lite vs Huawei Y9 (2019): Camera

Both the phones include dual camera setup on the back. While on the front, the Honor phone includes one camera while the Huawei phone consists of two of them. The Huawei Y9 (2019) comes with a 13MP primary camera and 2MP secondary camera with f/1.8 aperture. On the front, it includes a primary sensor of a 16MP and secondary sensor of 2MP with f/2.0 aperture. The Honor 10 Lite comes with a primary sensor of a 13MP and second camera of a 2MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture and f/2.4 aperture respectively. On the front, the phone includes a 24MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture with several AI features.

Honor 10 Lite vs Huawei Y9 (2019): Conclusion 

As you can see, the spec-sheet of both the smartphones look identical and it all comes down to the pricing. The Honor 10 Lite with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage is priced at Rs 13,999, while the Y9 (2019) with the same configuration is available for Rs 15,990. Notably, the Y9 (2019) offers a secondary front-facing camera for realistic depth effect, but the Honor 10 Lite has a superior 25MP front-facing camera. Also, the 10 Lite has the much trendy teardrop style notch.

The clear winner amongst the two is the Honor 10 Lite because of the slightly lower price tag. The Huawei Y9 (2019) offers slightly better specs in the camera and battery department, but they're not enough to justify the price tag.
