Swiss data center provider Green has broken ground on a new data center in Zurich. The company announced this week the start of construction on its fourth data center at its Metro-Campus Zurich West to meet the rising demand for computing power. Scheduled to launch in 2026, the new facility, which also serve as the company's headquarters, will offer 5,526 sqm of data center space and 12 MW of capacity, Green said in a statement.

Rising Demand for Computing Power
This expansion responds to increasing demand driven by advancements in artificial intelligence and digitalisation. "The demand for modern data centers is immense. New technologies such as artificial intelligence and the push for digitalisation across all industries require more computing power and generate greater volumes of data," explained the company.
"We are on the cusp of another wave of investment," said Green, adding: "With our investment program, we are once again doubling our data center capacities over the next two to three years. Modern and efficient data centers are crucial if companies want to realistically implement sustainable and future-proof digitalisation."
Key Features and Sustainability Initiatives
Key features of the Data Center Zurich West 4 facility include a waste heat extraction system that will provide climate-neutral heating to the region through the "Naturenergie Eigenamt" network, operated by IBB Energie AG. The center will also use natural cooling (free cooling) methods to minimise energy consumption and will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy.
