We're just two weeks away from Google officially unveiling the Pixel 2 series of smartphones. Just a couple of days ago, Google officially confirmed the launch date for Pixel 2 lineup as October 4, and now, a new report reveals complete details about the upcoming smartphones.
Android blog, Droid-life has obtained details about the Pixel 2 smartphones, and also other products which Google is going to launch at the same event. Firstly, the smartphones are called as Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The smaller Pixel 2 will be manufactured by Taiwanese brand HTC, while the Pixel 2 XL is confirmed to be built by South Korean giant LG. In addition, Google will be announcing a new Daydream View VR headset and Google Home Mini speaker as well.
Let' speak about the smartphones first. The smaller HTC-made Pixel 2 is rumoured to sport a 4.97-inch Full HD display, and an Edge Sensor at the sides, same as the HTC U11. So, you interact with the Pixel 2 by squeezing it. The report says that the device will be available in Kinda Blue, Just Black, and Clearly White colour options.
Speaking about the design of both the smartphones, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will sport a metal and glass back, but this time around, the glass covering won't cover the fingerprint scanner. That said, the Pixel 2 devices may not feature wireless charging this year as well. A recent report confirmed that the devices will have IP68 dust and water certification and also come with Always-On display feature.
Coming back to the Pixel 2 XL, it is rumoured to come with a 5.99-inch edge-to-edge 18:9 display, with slim bezels on top and bottom. Unlike the Pixel 2, the Pixel 2 XL will come in just two colour options- 'Just Black' and 'Black and White' with an orange coloured power button. The Black and White coloured Pixel 2 XL look gorgeous from the rear side.
Coming back to the specifications, both the smartphones will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC, single rear camera setup, Android 8.0 Oreo, etc. The devices will be available in two storage options- 64GB and 128GB.
Pricing wise, the 64GB Pixel 2 will cost $649 and the 128GB variant will cost $749. The Pixel 2 XL might cost $849 for the 64GB variant, and $949 for the 128GB storage option. That said, Google is increasing the prices of the Pixels after watching the Galaxy Note 8 and iPhone X pricing.
Alongside the Pixel 2 smartphones, Google will be announcing a Google Home Mini speaker and a new Google Daydream View headset. The Home Mini speaker will cost just $49, and the Daydream View headset will cost $99. The Indian pricing will be announced at the global launch itself.
