Popular Google apps like Google Photos, Google Search (including Discover) and Google Calendar are now getting Dark Mode on Android. In the past, reports suggested that all the Google apps will support dark mode in the future, right before the public launch of Android Q. Personally, I have received the Dark mode on Google Search and Google Calendar apps, while several users claim on Twitter that they are able to spot dark mode on Google Photos app as well. Earlier today, the Google app on my OnePlus 7 Pro automatically displayed the option to enable dark mode, while the Google Calendar app got a new update on Play Store, which added the new theme. A few days ago, Andriod Police also reported that Google Photos dark mode is being rolled out Android Pie and Oreo devices.

Google Photos, Calendar and Search Get Dark Mode

Google is pushing the app updates on a phased manner, it seems. As mentioned, Google Photos on my OnePlus 7 Pro did not receive any dark mode, while the Calendar and Search app got them. In the case of Google Calendar, the dark mode can be enabled on devices running Android 7.0 Nougat and above. The same case might apply to other apps as well.

Notably, Google is adding a Dark Mode to Android as well with the forthcoming Android Q update. Furthermore, the report from Android Police states that the Google Photos dark mode update is a server-side change and it’ll be available for users at any time, but make sure that you’re on the latest version of the Google Photos app.

The Google Search app’s dark mode is not just limited to the search, but the Google Discover page now has a dark theme too, which is a good thing to see. On Pixel smartphones, Google Discover can be accessed by swiping to the left on the home screen and they can now spot the Discover page in dark theme.

Android Q Also Has a Full-Fledged Dark Theme

In other news, Google recently pushed the Android Q Beta update to several smartphones and its own Pixel devices. As we have stated, Android Q brings a full-fledged dark theme to Android, finally. It’s one of the much-asked features from Android users across the world and it’s good to see the search giant listening to the users. Also, there’s a hidden feature inside Developer Options which adds a dark theme to every application installed on your smartphone.

At the moment, it’s unknown which other Google apps will receive dark mode. It’ll be interesting if Google rolls out the dark mode to popular apps like Gmail, Google Maps, Google Drive, Google Play Music and so on. YouTube already has a dark mode which can be enabled manually from the app settings.
