Remember the Google’s Android Go platform announced back at the Google I/O 2017 event? Well, the same project makes a reappearance as Android Oreo (Go Edition). At the ongoing Google for India event, the search giant has announced the new Google Android Oreo (Go Edition), which is the lightweight version of the Android 8.0 Oreo.

Alongside this, Google also rolled out its light apps such as Gmail, YouTube, etc. Furthermore, Google even introduced apps such as Google Go, Go Play Store, etc., which are optimised to run better in the Android Oreo (Go Edition). Google says that Android Oreo devices with 512MB to 1GB of memory will come with all the Go optimisations.

The Android Oreo (Go Edition) is made up of three components- Operating System, Google Apps, and Google Play Store. In the first place, Google has designed the operating system to provide performance and storage improvements to the OS with data management features and security benefits built-in. Secondly, the Google apps will be optimised to take full advantage of the low-end hardware, and yes, it comes with Go Play, which is a stripped down version of Google Play Store that allows you to download an app, but also highlights the apps designed to work best on your device.

Android Go devices will come preinstalled with fewer apps to not take up more space. Google said that Android Go smartphones would come with nine apps pre-installed- Google Go, Google Assistant Go, YouTube Go, Google Maps Go, Gmail Go, Gboard, Google Play, Chrome, and the new Files Go app.

Furthermore, Google promises faster app load time, to be precise, 15% faster app load time is promised by the company. The Android Oreo (Go Edition) is now made available for manufacturers. We should see brands coming up with their Android Go edition smartphones in the coming months. That said, Google did not collaborate with smartphone brands as it did with Android One program. Also, the Android Oreo (Go Edition) will be launched with Android 8.1 this month.
