Google has been in the news for a reason this week and it definitely wasn’t a good one. Google had quietly removed the statement about the “guaranteed two years of OS upgrade for all Android One phones” from its website. This created a lot of buzz among the Android One phone users. Soon after the report went viral, Google acknowledged it and said that the statement was removed due to some technical issues in the website design. Basically, Google denied the reports and said that all Android One phones would continue to get Android updates as promised. Notably, in its statement to the media, Google said the company confirms that it will continue to provide two years of updates on Android One devices and the statement was removed due to some issues with the website design. “Our website design does not impact the promise of this programme,” a Google spokesperson confirmed to the media.

Google Denies Reports on Android One Updates

Earlier this week Google’s Android One webpage on the company website just mentioned about the guaranteed monthly updates but there was no mention of the Android OS update anywhere on the website. That’s when several media reports started circulating on the internet slamming Google for deleting the statement and not living up to its promise.

The original statement about the Android One update on the Google website mentioned, “With Android One, your phone will receive at least two years of OS upgrades to the latest version of Android. That means access to the latest innovations and a phone that always runs as smoothly as the day you bought it. However, the website now only states that Google will be releasing three years of regular security updates for Android One devices.”

The whole of this statement was removed from the website, but now, after Google acknowledged the issue, the text is back confirming that the removal of the statement was just a mistake and that Google will continue to bring latest Android OS to Android One phones.

After the report went viral and everyone started to backlash Google the company spokesperson confirmed to the media, "We confirm that our promise to provide two years of updates on Android One devices still stands and our website design does not impact the promise of this programme.”

Android One Phones Are Getting Popular

Ever since the Android One program was introduced by Google, the smartphone space and also the way users use their Android phones now have changed. Most Android OEMs are slowly moving to provide a stock Android experience to the users by pairing up with Google’s Android One program. The biggest example of it is HMD Global. Most recently launched Nokia phones from HMD Global – Nokia 8.1, Nokia 7.1, Nokia 5.1 Plus and others, run on Android One programme and offer a stock Android experience to the users. In addition to HMD, other phone companies like Xiaomi, Motorola, Infinix and others have partnered with Google to bring Android One powered phones to the consumers.
