Amsterdam-headquartered GlobalNet, a backbone Internet Service Provider (ISP), has announced the launch of its new Point of Presence (PoP) in Vienna, marking its first entry into Austria. Located at the Digital Realty VE2 data center, the Vienna PoP offers a range of services, including IP Transit, DATAIX Internet Exchange, and DWDM and Wavelength services. This announcement follows GlobalNet's launch of its first Point of Presence (PoP) in Switzerland earlier this week. The new PoP is located at the Equinix ZH4 data center in Zurich.

GlobalNet's New Vienna PoP
GlobalNet highlighted that this new Vienna PoP is pivotal for the company's European strategy, allowing it to serve Central, Southern Europe, and the Balkans. "This strategic expansion aligns with the company's goal of achieving comprehensive coverage throughout the region," the official release said.
Integration with Existing Network
GlobalNet said the new PoP is fully integrated into its existing fiber optic backbone, connected to the major internet hub Equinix FR5 in Frankfurt via ROADM nodes in Stuttgart and Munich. This route is built on DWDM technology with scalable capacities from 10G to 400G.
"The establishment of our presence in Austria marks a pivotal milestone in our global strategy to expand our DWDM network and connectivity services across Europe. This unique hub positions us to attract and manage diverse traffic flows throughout the region," said Alex Surkoff, Business Development Director at GlobalNet.
Impact on European Markets
"By launching a presence in Austria, we are now positioned to serve a broader range of customers in Central and Southern Europe, as well as the Balkans. The Vienna PoP is a crucial addition to our network, enabling us to extend our services to new markets, including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary," Alex added.
