Qualcomm recently announced the Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform as an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 660. While the chipset is already available for manufacturers, we still don't have information on when the smartphones will come out. Vivo, the Chinese brand which made good use of the Snapdragon 660 SoC last year and this year will be amongst the first brands to unveil a smartphone with Snapdragon 710 SoC. The Vivo NEX, which is rumoured to be the rebranded version of the Vivo APEX smartphone that was showcased at the MWC 2018 will be powered by the Snapdragon 710 chipset.
Well, don't get afraid as Vivo marketed the device as a flagship one, so the phone is expected to come in two variants- one with the flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset and the other one with the newly announced Snapdragon 710 chipset. Both the variants will be launched in China on June 12 and might be launched in India too later in the same month.
Talking about the Snapdragon 710 version of the Vivo NEX, it now paid a visit to popular benchmarking portal Geekbench. The device achieved a score of 1975 in single-core test and 5833 in multi-core test. These scores are pretty much similar to the Snapdragon 660 SoC powered devices such as the Nokia 7 Plus, Xiaomi Mi 6X and Mi Note 3.
The smartphone was benchmarked with Android 8.1 Oreo and 4GB of RAM. The base frequency is listed as 1.71GHz. The scores achieved by the Snapdragon 710 SoC are in the territory of the Snapdragon 660 itself. The single-core score on the Vivo NEX is slightly higher than every other Snapdragon 660 device out there. Also, the overall performance is said to be better than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, which was Qualcomm's flagship chip for 2016.
The Vivo NEX will be launched in China on June 12, which will also mark Vivo's entry into the flagship market. Until now, the company has focussed on launching upper mid-range smartphones in both China and India. The pricing details of the Vivo NEX is unknown at the moment.
