Ever since the beginning of the cricket season, the DTH industry was brewing with new offers, packs and discounts which were aimed at luring the cricket fans. During the Indian Premier League matches, the DTH companies witness a bump in their viewership thanks to the cricket fanatics. However, every DTH company is vying for the most share during this period and wants to retain its subscribers on the screens. As such, we already saw Airtel Digital TV and Tata Sky rollout complimentary sports channel offers during the start of the cricket season and then withdraw it, D2h, on the other hand, has been taking a different approach and it has introduced sports channels with a two-month lock-in period. Therefore, D2h subscribers who would like to catch some cricket action live on their screens could subscribe to these plans, but they will have to make a commitment of at least two months.

Sports Channels Starting at Rs 17 per Month With Two Month Lock-in

D2h has put out a poster giving out information about its latest offering for the cricket fans. Since almost all TV viewers watch IPL without exception, D2h is offering the option for subscribing to major sports channels for two months so that viewers will be able to enjoy these channels without any hindrance or long term commitment. All the channels listed by D2h for this offer are available at the rate of Rs 19 per month except for Star Sports 1 Tamil which is available for Rs 17 per month. Under English channels, D2h is offering Star Sports 1, Star Sports 1 HD, Star Sport Select 1 and Star Sport Select 1 HD. Under Hindi channels, D2h is offering Star Sports 1 Hindi and Star Sports 1 Hindi HD. The Telugu, Kannada and Tamil version of Star Sports 1 is also available under this offer.

It is worth noting that D2h has notified about a lock-in period of two months for these channels meaning that subscribers will have to commit to paying for at least two months when they select these channels. However, for people who are just interested in watching the Indian Premier League, the two-month lock-in period makes sense as they will be able to watch the entire series and then they can decide to conclude their subscription to these sports channels. Therefore, a subscriber wishing to watch Star Sports 1 HD will pay Rs 38 exclusive of GST over two months on top of their already existing subscription. To activate these channels on their subscriptions, the customers will have to dial the respective numbers for each channel through their registered mobile number to confirm their selection.

Tata Sky and Airtel Digital TV Withdraw Sports Channels Offer

On similar lines, Tata Sky and Airtel Digital TV have also announced that they will be providing complimentary sports channels to all their subscribers until May 19, 2019. However, both the DTH operators have pulled down the offer just after one week of providing free service to the users.
