India has been preparing for a long time to deploy the 5G wave in India. The BJP led government in the past stated that it wouldn’t miss out on the 5G bus like in case of 2G, 3G and 4G…

It's evident from behaviour of govt towards its own state own BSNL which is struggling to get 4G in place in 2020.

"The primary reason behind this is the lack of preparedness, unavailability of sufficient spectrum and uncertainty around radio waves sale for the next generation of telecom services. "

"Lack of preparedness" it's RG-ish like statement. For 4g massive reform itself many crybabies cried as so much of mess.! Now previously non existent database created. Demand only grows. Soon demand will push for 5G. With Chinese virus mess, everything changed in world order.! It's an opportunity....Govt may give away 5G airwaves on trail basis for free till 2021 or will give loans basing balance sheet, there by boosting ecosystem in advance & to boost demand for next new bands auction. All will be preparing themselves for wide scale commercial. Jio already started 5G ads& going after deals to make its debt zero. Will go after 5G backed by [email protected] zero debt org & to lead 5G in India. More the time govt take, India will loose to replace Huweai "5G infra" global space. Most countries r now anti china& don't want china to fill that 5G space. So Irrespectively only country that can scale upto china is India. We hv big market at home itself unlike rest. No matter what, ground work for that will done @ war pace Forget ? with anyone to participate in auction. Some things like this will just happen. U can say India don't hv expertise for all this. But India got talent& workforce. With new outside investors & global expertise...India don't need to start from ground level. India is not here to prove as world's best innovator. Task for India is just to replace china as export alternative. India can fill as 80-90% 5G equipment supplier. Even if it was expensive over china, world prefer not be over dependent on china. World want new supply chain replacement to china to balance the present over dependent supply order. India is only that china can't bully & capable of matching china at scale.

Only myopics couldn't read the future course.

Wrt 3300mhz, signal will be worse than existing 2300mhz. It needs more towers. Scaling up antennas sites& made in India equipment for global supply adds growth to any company which invested in this. Basically it is not be make Apple like company overnight. It is to replace china, if India can source it's 5G stuff from India itself then it's a big push wrt future. Covid proved how India can become self reliant.

If this was posted before Covid, then it makes sense. Nw it don't. Changes happening all of sudden in india. Don't forget "8pm" ????

Let India breathe wrt Covid mess, scaling up as china alternative supply chain is on cards @India & world needs alternative supply chain unlike before. Many don't want to be over dependent on china. If it is India, china can't bully like it's neighbors& local market to huge to fill. For anyone India is the best destination. Wait & watch.!

I have a premonition that this actually may work out well to be in India's favour because 1) There is a 5G war erupting between US & China and should we buy (into) either or hardware at this time, there will be a huge price to pay in terms of legacy upkeep knowing that one cannot crisscross the other i.e., either we go with the Chinese one which is very risky as they are known to spy pretty shamelessly OR with the US group which may also spy in all possibilities but at least there is some leeway in seeking some reprieve if at all. 2) 5G needs nodes at every nook and corner unlike 4G. There may be bigger health hazards here. 3) 5G speeds will not be 5G .. it'll be at best 4G speeds. 4) The companies will want to recover all their investment either via a bailout by the government/bank OR by squeezing the customers - who knows what the future is so why take a risk! As India, we are not in a good shape economically and making exorbitant investments at this time will only trouble the Indians at large. We can already see almost all the major telecom companies doing both of the above (Point #1) and putting a strain on the financial system here. Lets not get into another white elephant moment at least in this industry despite 5G being promising and all that. This fluff & luxury can wait till better times return. If you think 4G is priced high, wait till 5G sets in .. initially it'll be twice or maybe three times the cost. The Indian public cannot bear such rates today. 5) In the meantime, let 5G mature elsewhere whereby we can observe the pros and cons & learn from the mistakes in other markets and choose a timing for entry into 5G judiciously. 6) The higher the broadband speeds, the higher the chances of faster more devastating cyber attacks with higher frequency of attacks and that too with ease. What takes 5 minutes for cyber attack will take mere seconds owing to the speeds. We have the capacity for decent speeds now which can be availed if necessary by paying more. Lets wait. This ain't the time for splurging on 5G.

well said, and may be if indians develop 5G equipments indegeniously things will get better and affordable by the time there is 5G auction. Few weeks back heard Jio is trying to develop something by themselves if other IT companies join maybe a healthy competion be good for us in long run.

@prithvi.

All points true. But i am still favoring that atlest exiting telco and upcoming start-up should be given acess to 5G spectrum at negligible cost.

Or given spectrum to exiting telco to run NON-commercialized 5G spectrum of quantity : 1 Block. This will feed as innovation from MAde in BHARAT.

Later aution can happen at specified price by avoiding strict price rule like 492 Core/Mhz.

Basically growth=principal investment/efficiency. It applies to all sectors. Pumping unlimited tax payers money to pay some ppl is not a good move for any country. Government should not be involving in business administration, that too in companies like BSNL. Why have bureaucrats running PSUs, let those things to technocrats& business ppl.
Wrt Telecom, It's highly competitive & technology driven. What BSNL achieved till now is....used to live with copper monopoly, while rest moves with latest technologies. Launched 3g in 2005, all know it's success before jio 4g, Fate for 4g would hv been same if it was not present govt.

Bsnl was given 4g spectrum, which they returned it govt. Bsnl should remodel their business to be profitable & let rest go in some loss making highly competitive areas.

Chalta hey incompetent attitude & begging for tax payers money is not a growth model that India should put itself into.

These r not 1991 copper days to try monopoly like water meter billers.

Don't cry victim of jio data assault, BSNL launched 3g in 2005, it's success story tells about them. Jio launched 4g in 2016 only. India don't need BSNL or any to replicate parallel infrastructure. It's waste of public money.

3 companies fighting for digital market is more than enough @ India. Bsnl need to back off & concentrate on fiber optic cable internet business, renewing it's copper lines capturing it's existing base from moving away to private players.

India don't need BSNL

Differ with this and most of the opinion, BSNL is a Nation's asset. It just needs proper measures and support.

I think 5G should be launched in cities first. Then where people use huge amount of data.
And for other places improve existing 4G network.

No urgency first achieve 5G like speeds in 4G network with adequate spectrum.

I don't think we need 5G. Improve the 4G first properly in all over india.

Instead of jumping for 5G, we need proper fixedline broadband. We should depend on fixedline for data intensive things like streaming, wfm etc instead of depending on 4G or 5G.

Actually people who is having fiber broadbands in home is already experiencing 5G speeds in home already.

People when they are outdoors, 4G is enough
