Both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) have been going back and forth with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) for quite some time now. The issue that Trai has with the telcos is their ‘Priority 4G Network’…

TT just one suggestion sometimes comment is not approved timely. Atleast assure that 90% of the time in weekdays comments get approved within 30mins. This will ensure more discussion among the readers.

It's a lie from Airtel. I tested few weeks ago before trai ban, B3 is allocated for priority users exclusively and prepaid users are dumped to B40.

When I locked to B3, rsrq was just -4 to -6 which indicates less users and speeds was full while B40 have only 2-5Mbps. But after trai's intervention this mechanism is removed.

Trai took the action after receiving the complaint from Jio. So it is clearly shows that trai is just a toy for Ambani.
Plans like Vodafone Redx is offered worldwide and what is the problem with that.

Both voda and airtel are badly stuck with trai on Q &A . It seems they are unable to answer some tough question put forth by trai. Actually they have gone ahead and spoken some truth which we readers were already debating here on the portal.
Major truth they have spoken recently during presentation to trai on 10th August is customer using premium handset will be getting better speed even without premium plans on thier network but customer using low range handset(like xiomi, realme etc) may not get good speed even with thier premium plans. So irony is to get good speed customer should upgrade handset and not tariff plan. Lol. They have now shot on thier foot. Trai will push them to mention this in their T&C. Trai has also asked them to provide list of such phones which provide poor and high speeds so that trai can take final decision.

Telcos have also told that subscribing premium plans doesn't gaurentee better speed always as lot of factors like site upgradation, customer device , load on site etc will play a role. So trai asked them to come with sample report of such sites readiness and congestion levels which telcos couldn't answer and asked for more time to check with vendors and will come back.

Telcos are very irritated since trai is questioning them in detail and can japerodize their premium plan offering . They are blaming trai for allowing such plans for 9 months and now why suddenly such doubts. Obviouly this reason has no standing except in court, trai can take independent decision. Not sure if jio has prepared questionnaire on TRAI behalf. hahahahahaha

Guys we know how many sites have fibre backhaul in cities. Even with 4 to 5 bands running we don't get adequate speeds. So these operators are making fool of both premium and non premium customers.

It will be interesting outcome of these premium plan when trai take decision in two weeks.

Vishal agree with you but it seems airtel has not stopped this , it is still happening for postpaid and prepaid subscribers. I just checked after your comment.
Airtel postpaid subsciber tends to stay more and consistently on band 3 (10mhz) with rsrq -4to-7 which gives non stop 35 Mbps than prepaid customer which always stays on even weak band 40 with speeds ranging from 15 to 40mbps in day time. Moreover they have reduced upload speed to 80kbps on band 40. Whereas band 3 gives 15 to 20mbps upload speeds .

So tactics here is work from home corporate guy will be pushed to go for postpaid since he will get irritated on poor upload speeds and will have broken video for doing live VC.

Guys understand the trick here. Don't get confused between higher speeds and priority access. Airtel and vil both branding it differently earlier but now both are branding it same. I:e priority access. This means postpaid or redX customer will get better pings and consistency in network speeds compared to non priority customer. Speed of both type of customers can be same. Difference will be in terms of consistency and better upload for Priority access.
I was also confused earlier. But sites which are congested already with too many users then company can't gaurentee any minimum quality. Trai is fighting on both these ends with telcos.

Hope it clears to lot of people who are confused that both prepaid and postpaid are getting same speeds

It looks like TRAI is trying hard for consumer sentiments!

Please share the mileage after the results! Thanks

I agree, Airtel hasn't stopped it but they've capped the download speed on Band 3 at 20 Mbps at my area now. Band 3 is still priority network for priority subscribers.

Exactly, had it been like a wired connection speed based plans are acceptable and differentiation between premium and non-premium can be done, but like here in wireless it totally seems like a marketing gimmick. No doubts that the providers say that users need to have premium phone which translates to having mimo/CA enabled phones which is a normal feature with high priced phones now a days. Like you said if a bts goes overload there is no way they can guarantee a minimum speed or maintain quality.

So in other words to put it is - if a user has budget phone, which fulfills his work need but he is willing to pay for premium plan as he need better speed, but now despite paying more he wont be getting the same treatment as the other user

Yes Biswa bhai, what telcos are feeding trai is that first thing for customer looking at quality network access is to upgrade his handset to mid range or high end . Then he will definitely get good speeds and now on top of this if he needs priority access then he needs to upgrade to their premium plans. Person using Xiaomi and realme under 20k can forget better network and speeds. Priority can be given but difference felt will be negligible as no 4x4 mimo support , intra band carrier agg etc....
How they are providing priority access is they must have explained to trai. They are saying as part of IMS layer 3gpp they are prioritising user on its network. Means network talks to phone radio to switch to least congested band automatically rather than phone sitting on highest bandwidth band like 40 or 41. Phone doesn't have intelligence to understand which band is less congested untill unless users locks band or network intervenes. Phone only stays on band with better coverage and bandwidth (as programmed by device manufacturer)

True, my advice to folks is better buy good mid ranger. Remain on normal prepaid plan, you will get good speed if site is less congested. No need to go for these priority or redX plan untill unless YOU NEED BETTER PINGS AND VIDEO CONFERENCING. gamers and corporate folks should go for these plans. PERIOD.

Now coming to what jio is complaining is that the way avoid is marketing these plans is wrong . It is misguiding its own customers and customers on their network. They should clearly come out of terms and conditions do's and don't and if it is within framework of trai then jio would also like to come up with such offering and earn money. This is fair ask.

@chetan.
First thing Airtel/VIL say is Indirectly u must on less congested BTS to get full advantage of Higer speed.
Second it Best/high end handset supporting higer CAT10 or above
Third is This premuim plan ,which enable prioroty as pe 3GPPP, .

Major cention for jio, asked by TRAI, under what paramer, answer is MPS, QOS category 6, we are configuring these Subsbiber under premium plan. So jio tommorow can easily launch plan to monetise in same way.

JIOs plan would be standard use case once its 5G network gets launch by hopefully next year, As by that time jios must have gain some 5% or X% opted for premuim plan from exiting jio or avoids loyal user.

This is pure violation of net neutrality and equality. Atleast in India, this is going to be a matter of fundamental rights to consumer of being treated as equal.

Although these telecom operators are currently saying that they are not limiting speeds of other non premium users, this will change in future when this plan becomes legal/valid and in circulation. They will slowly limit the speeds offered to non premium users.

Have you guys used 2g currently and the 2g it was few years ago when 3g wasn't launched? Those days 2g used to work well. But currently 2g doesn't even open a webpage with fastest loading resource. You can try it yourself and see the current scenario. This they did to shift users from 2g to pay more for shifting to 3g plans. Customers had no choice rather shift to expensive 3g plans those days. I still remember these days.

We guys should oppose this priority plans and network speed and services should be equal to all citizens in india. No matter how much a user pays for their usage, but network, customer support and every such important factors should be equal to all. That's the core purpose of telecom.

Stand against this today for a better tomorrow.
