Bharti Airtel, on the verge of expanding its VoLTE coverage on a pan-India basis today announced the service roll out in Kolkata. Airtel VoLTE services, which was launched last year works over 4G and will enable customers to experience HD voice calls with super fast call connect time. Customers in Kolkata circle can call any mobile, landline network using Airtel VoLTE. Alongside this announcement, Airtel also stated that over 100 4G smartphone models are now compatible with Airtel VoLTE. Almost all the popular devices from brands such as Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi, customers can now choose from the best of flagship 4G smartphones including the iPhone X, iPhone 8 series, Samsung Galaxy S7 & Galaxy S7 Edge, OnePlus 5 & 5T to enjoy Airtel VoLTE services.
However, the recent flagship devices from Samsung such as the Galaxy S8, S8+, Note 8, S9, S9+ are yet to receive the support. Furthermore, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro also received Airtel VoLTE support.
As usual, users will not be charged anything additional for using VoLTE as it's completely free to use. Calls will be billed as per existing plan or pack benefits.
Since everyone might be aware of the fact that Airtel is a GSM operator, meaning it offers services on 2G, 3G and 4G network. That said, in the case of non-availability of the 4G network, Airtel VoLTE calls will automatically fall back on the 3G/2G network to ensure that customers continue to stay connected at all times. The same applies to Vodafone Super VoLTE service and Idea Cellular' VoLTE service.
Airtel VoLTE services are currently available in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Karnataka, Chennai and Kolkata circles. When it launched the VoLTE services last year, the company said to roll out pan-India VoLTE services by March 2018, but it seems like Airtel will take some more time to roll out the VoLTE services in every circle.
