Earlier this month, Apple launched the PRODUCT RED editions of the Apple iPhone 8 and the 8 Plus with Red coloured glass back. During the launch event, Apple stated that the device would be coming to India early next month. Today, both the iPhone 8 (PRODUCT) RED edition and the iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT) RED edition are up for pre-order in India on e-commerce portal. The special edition iPhone 8 starts from Rs 67,940 for the base 64GB variant, while the iPhone 8 Plus Red edition 64GB variant costs Rs 77,560. The 128GB variant of the iPhone 8 RED costs Rs 81,500 and the 128GB iPhone 8 Plus will retail for Rs 91,110. Both the models are now available for pre-order in India on Flipkart and the sale will commence on April 30. However, the phones are already available for purchase via Apple authorised resellers.

Apple also launched the PRODUCT RED iPhone 7 and 7 Plus last year, but they arrived with a white front. The PRODUCT RED iPhone 8 and 8 Plus features a glass Red rear panel and a Black front, making it more appealing.

The first countries to receive the smartphones on April 13 were Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, the UK and the US. As mentioned, India was slated to receive the devices in early May, but Apple brought both the devices to the country way ahead of the expected time slot.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's Vice President of Product Marketing said as follows: "This special edition (PRODUCT) RED iPhone features a stunning red and black colour combination and also offers customers the opportunity to make an impact in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS."

Apple releases the PRODUCT RED edition iPhones every year and this year, it released the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, not the PRODUCT RED iPhone X. But rumours hint the Red iPhone X is still on cards as the Cupertino giant might announce it at the WWDC 2018 event in June alongside the Blush Gold iPhone X.

The launch of the RED edition iPhones is part of the company's partnership with (PRODUCT) RED, which is a backing group that combats HIV/AIDS in Africa. Apple already confirmed that part of the PRODUCT RED iPhone sales would go to the Global Fund HIV/AIDS. Apple stated that it raised over $160 million for the PRODUCT RED until December 2017.
