Apple Approaches Trai for the Inclusion of DND App on iOS App Store: Report

Trai recently introduced DND app in order to keep a check to spam calls and messages. However, Apple refused to include the application on App Store because the app violates Apple's privacy policies. Apple said that the application seeks user's private data.

It is now reported that the Cupertino giant has approached Trai for ‘more consultation’ on including the application officially on the App Store. Trai's DND application keeps a log of incoming calls, and also checks for spam SMS and calls. Apple thinks that the SMS box contains all the bank OTPs and several other personal information of the customers, which is the reason why it did not approve the application.

A report from PTI says that Apple has again approached the regulator to resolve the issue. Apple is now looking to add the Do-Not-Disturb (DND 2.0) application to its App Store. "They (Apple) have written to us for a meeting on the issue saying that they have an approach on this which they want to discuss," TRAI Chairman R S Sharma on Thursday when asked regarding the issue.

Trai's DND application was launched last year with an aim to report spam SMS and voice calls received by a user. On the app, a subscriber can register/deregister his number for DND. There is an option to file a complaint against a particular number or an SMS sender. There is also a ‘Help’ and ‘FAQ’ section, where one can find an answer for most of the queries related to DND. The app works through SMS permission. The DND 2.0 version is a completely revamped version of the DND Services application. Currently, this application is available only for Android users.

However, to make a complaint on a particular spam message or call, the user has to be registered on DND, which he can do it from the Trai DND 2.0 application itself.
