Finally, Andy Rubin's ambitious project- Essential smartphone goes official. The Essential smartphone is built by the father of Android, and the device looks absolutely stunning. The first Essential smartphone which went official moments ago features an edge-to-edge display, high-end hardware, and it's modular as well.

The Essential phone will be sold only in the US, currently for $699 (approx. Rs. 45,000) and the chances of it making to India are pretty bleak. As you can see in the image above, the phone has a 5.71-inch gorgeous edge-to-edge display with a 1440p resolution.

That said, with the edge-to-edge display, the phone competes with the Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6. The Essential smartphone will be available across all the carriers in the US, which is an added advantage. For a smartphone that costs $699, Andy Rubin's team has added top-notch hardware as well.

The device is fuelled by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of onboard storage. The device won't feature a 3.5mm headphone jack, and you have to rely on the USB Type-C port. There's NFC chip on the phone for Android Pay and Bluetooth 5.0 for faster data transfer rates.

Another highlight of the phone is that it's built of Titanium and Ceramic, which makes the device incredibly sturdy. Furthermore, the Essential team claims they have dropped the device from a reasonable height, and there was no harm to the phone. This is something which sets the phone ahead of the competition.

Coming to the cameras in the handset, it features two 13MP sensors at the back, along with an 8MP front-facing snapper. The rear camera implementation is nothing to write off here as one sensor captures RGB shots, while the other one captures monochrome shots.

Lastly, it is a modular phone as well. Beside the rear camera, there's a magnetic connector with which you can connect accessories. Alongside the phone, the company also unveiled a 360-degree camera that costs $199. The 360-degree camera has two 12MP sensors, and it can also record 4K videos.

Along with the 360-degree camera accessory, the device costs $749 (approx. Rs. 50,000) if you preorder the phone. Unfortunately, the device is available only in the US.
