Amazon Prime Video Might Launch in India in December, Should Netflix India Worry?

Amazon Prime debuted in India in July this year, and since then many have been waiting for Amazon Prime Video. Amazon has finally revealed the launch timeline for Prime Video in India. The e-commerce giant said that it would be bringing the service to India in December 2016.

On Twitter, the Grand Tour team stated that the service would launch in 200 other countries including India. On its website, Amazon displays that the Prime Video service for India will include ‘Bollywood movies, Hollywood movies, US shows, global Award-winning Amazon Original Series and Kids programmes'. The list of original series includes Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, The Man in the High Castle and the kids’ show Tumble Leaf, and much more. Along with these popular shows, Amazon will also be producing original shows for India. Users will be able to use Prime Video on Android, iOS, Desktop, Tablets, Smart TV's, and Gaming Consoles.

To recap, Amazon launched Prime service for India at a price of Rs. 499 per year. The service promised users with features such as same day/next day delivery, zero delivery charges, 30-minute advanced access to lightning deals. It would be interesting to see how Amazon prices its Prime Video for the Indian market.Prime Video will be a threat to Netflix India if Amazon keeps the pricing for the service under Rs. 500 or introduces a bigger library for movies and shows. Also, Amazon is rumoured to have already roped in production houses like T-series, Dharma Productions, along with rights to air IPL matches next year.
