Airtel’s New 3G Data Pack to Cost 46% More in Kerala, Older Packs see Heavy Validity Reduction

TelecomTALK has learnt from exclusive sources that Airtel will be introducing two new 3G data packs in Kerala circle. In addition to this the existing 3G packs will see a heavy reduction in terms of validity. It may be remembered that Airtel uses ICRA to provide 3G to customers in Kerala and the 3G data packs used to cost 40% more during debut.

Airtel New 3G Pack Details

Old New Change
Rs. 24 – 60 MB for 4 days Rs.24 – 60MB for 3 days Validity Reduction
Rs. 48 – 125 MB for 10 days Rs.48 – 120MB for 7 days Validity Reduction
Rs. 104 – 250 MB for 30 days Rs.104 – 250MB for 14 days Validity Reduction; in Airtel 3G Circles Rs. 102 provides 300 MB for 30 days
Rs. 197 – 600 MB for 30 days Rs.197 – 600MB for 25 days Validity Reduction
Rs. 348 – 1 GB for 50 days Rs.248 – 1 GB for 28 days Cheaper – on par with Airtel 3G Circles though validity lesser by two days
Rs.348 – 1.4GB for 28 days
Rs.498 – 2 GB for 28 days At Rs. 449 2.5 GB data in Airtel 3G Circles
Rs.655 – 2.5 GB for 30 days Expensive by 46% over Airtel 3G Circles (Rs. 449 for 2.5 GB data)

From the above table it is evident that a customer is made to pay 46% more for a decent data pack offering 2.5 GB data usage. The big question that emerges here is when the cost of 1 GB data pack could be brought down on par with Airtel 3G circles why is a new pack costing whopping 46% more?

In our opinion tariffs must be ideally uniform or at least marginally different. Who is your preferred 3G operator in Kerala and how much do you pay?

Even Airtel Tariffs are expensive in Karnataka!!! Their network is not as seamless as Idea and apart from that the 3G plans are costlier than Aircel, BSNL and TD 3G services!!! Shame on their parts

To the shameless airtel : We well move to VoIP services thrice as fast as you increase the rate of data pack in any manner directly*, indirectly** or in a unfair manner***. * means – just increasing the recharge value alone without reducing the data limit and the validity ** means – Keeping the recharge value the same and decreasing the validity *** means – increasing the price of recharge value, reducing the data limit and decreasing the validity (doing all 3 at the same time). Note that we have whatsapp, line, skype, nimbuzz, viber# etc for texts and free… Read more »
