The country's largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel today launched two unlimited voice calling plans along with bundled 3G / 4G data under 'myPlan Infinity' series. Under the new Infinity plans, for Rs 1,199 customers will enjoy unlimited voice calling – local, STD, and on national roaming – along with 100 SMS per day, 1GB 3G / 4G data and free subscription to Wynk Music and Wynk Movies.
The Rs 1599 plan will offer unlimited voice calling – local, STD, and on national roaming – along with 100 SMS per day, 5GB of 3G / 4G data and free subscription to Wynk Music and Wynk Movies. The details of both new plans is given in the table below.
The telecom company said these plans are in addition to the existing myPlan Infinity Airtel offers for its postpaid mobile customers. "Airtel postpaid 'myPlan Infinity' combines unlimited voice calling with variable data benefits, giving customers the flexibility to choose from a wide range of plans," the company added. The new plans will also offer a pay-as-go-rate of only 50p/MB post exhaustion of the data limit.
Ajai Puri, director – Operations (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel said: “With myPlan Infinity we are making voice calls free for our customers and offering them the flexibility to combine this benefit with their individual data requirements.”
Though this is a welcome move by the telco, it is clear that it is a step taken in order to retain subscribers and counter the entry of Jio in the market which is widely expected to launch in the coming days with unbeatable bundled benefits. Since postpaid subscribers tend to stick to the operator and contribute in augmenting ARPU Airtel is sweetening the deal for the postpaid segment. Another pan India operator Reliance communications offers similar unlimited calling and texting with bundled data under its ‘Jalsa postpaid’ plans which work out way cheaper than Airtel’s Infinity plans.
