After lowering the data tariffs, Airtel the largest telecom operator in the country is now offering data freebies to protect data customer base when Jio is preparing to home deliver sim cards, loaded with free data and calling benefits.
To prevent the churn of its high revenue generating data consuming user segment, the Mittal led telco is now offering free data up to 15 GB to its customers through the My Airtel app.
You might say there's nothing new in it because Airtel is already offering 5 GB of data each month through the self-care app, but this time one can claim the free data without any hassle of downloading other wynk apps or wouldn't have to complete any task to get free data. To offer the free data Airtel has now extended Handset Bundling Offer to all 4G devices, while some high value data customers are directly getting 10 GB of free data credited to their account.
Handset Bundling Offer extended to all 4G devices:
Airtel prepaid customers who have an upgraded 4G SIM and 4G handset can claim the offer through My Airtel app where one would get 15 GB of data at the rates of 1 GB data for the next 3 months. Considering the market data rates, one can get 15 GB data at Rs 250. Though this is a promotional data offer, those who are using 3G services can experience 4G speed now that too at a considerably low cost for the next 3 months.
High Value Data customers are getting 10 GB free data directly:
Those who use an Airtel prepaid number and use more data than average customers are now getting 10 GB free 4G/3G data as Data Dhamaka offer credited to their account. Though, compared to Jio's unlimited data offer, Airtel's 10 GB data offer falls far behind but it seems the number one operator is now feeling the heat as high value data customers are now preferring to switch to Jio for good data speeds and coverage.
Our Take:
This move by Bharti Airtel indicates that the company doesn't want to leave any stone unturned to protect its high value customers and they are following in the footsteps of Jio by offering free data benefits. So till next year, Airtel may offer similar free data benefits to customers to lessen subscriber churn rate. By then we believe, Airtel would bring attractive postpaid like bundling plans for prepaid customers in line with lower data rates to compete with Jio.
