In its latest move, Airtel Digital TV, the Digital TV arm of Bharti Airtel today announced a new 'Spotlight' channel to its subscribers. Basically, Spotlight is a Video on Demand channel that will air the best of Indian plays by popular theatre groups from across the country. Airtel Digital TV introduced this new channel in collaboration with Zee Theatre which is the theatre segment of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited. The Spotlight will air on channel no 191 and it's a subscription-based service from Airtel Digital TV. However, as an introductory offer, every customer will be able to use the service free for the first ten days, post which they'll be required to pay Rs 75 every month. Airtel Digital TV also allows users to activate the Spotlight channel by giving a missed call from the registered number or via the self-care portal (app or website).

Airtel Digital TV to Air Popular Plays in the Spotlight Channel

With this move, Airtel Digital TV's more than 15 million subscribers will be able to watch their favourite plays right in their homes. Right now, viewers can watch over 100 plays in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarathi, Bengali and English, across a wide range of genres including classics, thrillers, comedy and more. Some of the popular plays that will be available to customers on the new channel are Choker Bali, Ma Retire Hoti Hai, Vaastav, Sakubai and Janpath Kiss, said Airtel Digital TV in a press statement.

Richa Kalra, Product Manager – DTH, Bharti Airtel said, “At Airtel, we are always innovating for newer ways to delight out customers. Today, we are excited to add Theatre to our video-on-demand content portfolio and offer a wider genre of entertainment to our customers. With this partnership with Zee, we aim to offer a wider reach for the rich culture of Indian theatre.”

As mentioned above, Airtel Digital TV subscribers can view Spotlight on channel no 191 and it's a subscription-based Video on Demand service. For the first time, subscribers will be able to view the service for free for ten days, after which Airtel Digital TV will levy monthly charges of Rs 75 on their monthly TV bill. Airtel Digital TV users can cancel the Spotlight subscription at any time.

How to Activate Spotlight Video on Demand Service?

Airtel Digital TV allows users to activate Spotlight by giving a missed call and via the self-care portal. To activate Spotlight, customers have to just give a missed call to <8448284727> form their registered telephone number. Alternatively, they can log into their self-care portal (app or website) and activate service for free. It's a good move from Airtel Digital TV to bring a Video on Demand service to the subscribers, but the monthly charges of Rs 75 are on the higher side.

However, with the new tariff regime in place, subscribers are disappointed with increased monthly rentals. If you're one of them, you can activate this Spotlight Video on Demand and pay Rs 75 every month to watch popular shows from the internet.
