Bharti Airtel, the largest telecom operator in the country which enjoys 24.71 percent of market share with more than 255 million customers on their network has now crossed 1.5 crore subscriber mark in West Bengal circle, a category B circle where the Mittal owned telco has a robust network with 2G, 3G and recently launched 4G network became the second operator to cross the milestone.
Vodafone was the first operator in the circle to cross that figure in the past. Though these days after extending 3G and 4G networks Airtel is getting a large number of new customers who are joining from operators like Aircel and Idea. Even a few months back, when Reliance Communication shut down their 2G network, Airtel gained most of the port in requests.
Combining West Bengal and Kolkata metro circle, the company has 1.97 crore customers which means they need 3 lakh more customers to cross another milestone in the state. Airtel is taking advantage of having 4G spectrum in the circle which they bought from Aircel few months ago since apart from Jio, nearest competitor Vodafone has less spectrum and has still not launched 4G in key areas. However, Airtel deployed dual band 4G network in the state and probably can offer LTE A network in the state to enterprise customers.
Airtel Network in West Bengal at a glance:
- Total Customers: 15,014,052
- 3G: In key cities
- 4G: Dual Band 4G in Berhampur, Haldia, Kharagpur, Siliguri.
