Wi-Fi will be available in the lounge area and transit of the airport for 30 minutes after which the passengers have to pay for the service online.

The new development is offered after analyzing the need existing in Trivandrum Airport, where over three million passengers are handled every year. Among the three million, nearly 70 percent are international passengers. According to Tharakan, Trivandrum is the 11th busiest airport in India.

“We wanted to make sure that they get a similar experience as comparable to the world’s best airports in terms of services,” George Tharakan, Director of the international airport said.

Sunil Tandon pointed that the passengers at the airport have their own ‘magic hours’, the time which they utilize to access flight information, browse mails, send messages, make calls etc. The magic hours demand the need to have high quality internet at airports.

The new development of offering free Wi-Fi in airports has also raised the international standard of the country as many European nations do not provide free Wi-Fi at the airports, reveals a study by The Skyscanner Wi-Fi Guide.

The passengers also rate the service as important in the airports, with many use it for social media, mail access or to pass time as they wait for the flight boarding.
