Airtel Revamps Its International Roaming Pack Offering, Making It Truly Unified
Bharti Airtel offers truly global International Roaming (IR) packs for its users. For those who are unfamiliar, Airtel provides IR packs for both prepaid and postpaid users that are valid in over 180 countries. This means that Airtel's International packs can be used globally without the worry of choosing a specific pack for each country. Previously, the total list of countries was divided into two sets (Set 1 and Set 2), with benefits varying between the two.

Airtel Revamps IR Offering Model

To illustrate, let's consider a Rs 1000 IR pack that can be used in over 180 countries. This pack provides a benefit of 1GB in the Set 1 list of countries and a 500MB data benefit in the Set 2 list of countries. In this case, the same IR pack could be used across all countries, but with two different benefits. However, this has changed, and Airtel has completely revamped the IR pack offering and benefit applicability. Let's see what has changed in the story ahead.

Truly Unified Global IR Packs

Previously, the same pack valid for different countries offered two different benefits, but now there is one pack with the same benefits for all countries, further making the packs truly global and unified. With this revision, the same IR pack benefits are valid across all 184 countries. Airtel has made this change available for both prepaid and postpaid users.

Let's take Airtel's entry-level prepaid IR pack with 1-day validity to illustrate the difference in benefits between the old and new offering models.

Airtel Rs 649 IR Pack: Old Model

The Airtel Rs 649 pack (previous pack) used to offer 500MB of data, 100 minutes of free local outgoing calls, incoming calls, calls to India, and 10 SMS benefits for the Set 1 list of countries. For the Set 2 list of countries, it offered 250MB of data, 50 minutes of free local outgoing calls, incoming calls, calls to India, and 10 SMS benefits, all with 1-day validity.

Airtel Rs 648 IR Pack: New Model

Airtel's entry-level prepaid IR pack, priced at Rs 648, now offers 500MB of data, 100 minutes of free local outgoing calls, incoming calls, calls to India, and 10 free SMSs with one-day validity, applicable across 184 countries. This means you can take the pack and be covered globally, anywhere under the same pricing and with the same benefits. This is truly unified and global.

What Has Changed?

Earlier, Set 1 consisted of 119 countries, and Set 2 consisted of 65 countries. Now, every IR pack, whether prepaid or postpaid, is valid across all 180+ countries. This means that if you are travelling to multiple countries, the same benefit offered by the pack will work across the covered countries according to the active IR pack.

Conclusion

Currently, no operator in India is offering such flexibility for users across such a large number of countries. So, this upcoming holiday season, if you are planning an international trip, you don’t need to worry about the destination, pack, or respective benefits, as the same Airtel IR packs are valid across all countries where services are available, with the same benefits. If you are a global traveller, these packs can provide great convenience. Stay tuned for more updates on other IR benefits in our upcoming stories.
