Back at the Google I/O Keynote 2017, the search giant, along with Samsung announced that the high-end Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ would receive support for Daydream VR support. Months after announcing the news, Google has now revealed that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are now Daydream ready, meaning you can use the Google Daydream VR headset with any of these phones.
Google also said that the changes would be made on the server side, which means that there won't be any separate OTA update to enable the support. Being a server side update, we don't exactly know when the Daydream VR support will hit your Galaxy S8 device. So, keep all the Google services updated and download the Daydream application from Google Play Store to check whether the feature is enabled or not.
Google also promised last month that they would add the Daydream support to at least 11 high-end devices by the end of 2017. Till now, the Daydream VR support is included in the Google Pixel lineup and Moto Z first generation smartphones (only the high-end Moto Z and Z Force), Huawei Mate 9 (standard and Porsche design edition), Asus Zenfone AR, and ZTE Axon 7. By the end of 2017, we will have more Daydream supported devices such as the Galaxy Note 8, LG V30, Google Pixel 2 series, and a few Xiaomi devices are also slated to get the support.
To enjoy the Google Daydream feature, you have to purchase the Google Daydream VR headset, which is available for Rs. 6,499 in India. Without this headset, you can't use the Daydream feature.
For the unaware, Google unveiled the Daydream project back at Google I/O 2016 and released the first hardware alongside the Google Pixel phones in October 2016. It took eight months for Google to bring the Daydream VR headset to India.
Speaking about the Daydream VR headset, it comes with a face mask (just like any other VR headset) held in a velcro, in which the supported smartphone should be placed. If your smartphone has support for Daydream, then the phone automatically opens the Daydream application with the help of NFC pairing. The Daydream VR headset also has support for Motion Controller, which can be used to detect your movement.
