Low Light Photography

Perhaps the camera on the Xiaomi Mi A2 comes off as its biggest strength. The device features a 12MP primary snapper on the rear side with 1.25-micron pixels and a f/1.75 aperture, accompanying this, there is a 20MP secondary sensor with 4-in-1 pixel binning and bigger 2-micron pixels and a f/1.75 aperture. With both the primary and secondary lens sporting same larger aperture, the Xiaomi Mi A2 does not struggle at all while clicking photos in low light. Also, the pixel binning technology further increases the capability of the phone to capture in dim settings. I found that the 20MP shooter on the front clicks fantastic photos as well, making sure that the selfies are of equally high quality. The phone also comes with EIS meaning that the footage you capture is going to be highly stabilised. In addition to this, the Mi A2 is going to be supporting 1080p video recording at 60fps. Also, when I tested the portrait mode on the phone, it performed remarkably well and was able to differentiate between the edges.

Stock Android Experience

Not every phone user out there prefers it when their software comes with a lot of bloatware additions. MIUI has been one prominent suspect in this regard, however, to the joy of many users the successor of the Mi A1 follows tradition and it comes with the latest Android 8.1 Oreo stock experience. The phone is clean to its core and offers a simple UI of the Stock Android. While using the phone, I found that the clean UI does improve the experience a little bit and using the phone feels smoother and more fluid.

Sleek Design

The design of the phone is one aspect which might get overshadowed behind the other qualities of the Mi A2. However, there is no denying the fact that Xiaomi has done an impeccable job of gifting the Mi A2 with a very sleek design. The phone only measures 7.3mm in thickness, which puts it even ahead of the OnePlus 6 in this regard. However, Xiaomi has achieved this feat at the cost of 3.5mm headphone jack, which might be a thing of concern for a lot of users. When we held the phone, we realised that it comes with curved edges making the device comfortable to hold. Still, considering that Xiaomi Mi A2 is a budget offering, the phone boasts of some worthy aesthetics.

Performance

With the starting price of Rs 16,999, the Xiaomi Mi A2 packs an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. Out of the eight cores, in this chipset, four cores clock a frequency of 2.2GHz which are Kryo 260 cores, and the rest four are clocked at 1.8GHz which are also Kryo 260 cores. The chipset has been built on a 14nm architecture and owing to these specifications, the phone can boast of very fluid performance, and multitasking seems easy. The phone can take on some demanding games as well thanks to the overclocked cores which boost up the performance as and when needed.

Pricing

At this price point of Rs 16,999, the Mi A2 qualifies to be the best camera phone. Not only that, to someone who wants to buy an Android One device in a sub-Rs 20,000 range the Mi A2 is the device which is the contender for that spot. Overall, Xiaomi has launched a phone which lands at just the right point in a lot of categories and thus manages to steal attention from people. If you want to get your hands on this device, we recommend that you head straight over to Amazon India, or mi.com at 12 PM to join the sale.
