49.6 Million Airtel Subscribers in UP and Uttarakhand to Get Improved Voice and Data Services

Bharti Airtel, today revealed its massive network rollout plans for Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Uttarakhand with an aim to improve the customer experience as well as to expand high-speed data and voice services to deep rural areas. As part of the company’s network expansion programme, Project Leap, Airtel plans to deploy more than 17,313 new mobile sites along with 6,650 kms of fresh optic fibre across the two states during FY19. According to Airtel, this deployment will create significant high-speed data and voice capacity within the network to serve the explosive surge in mobile usage, driven by affordable smartphones and tariffs.

Airtel Customers in UP and Uttarakhand to Get Enhanced Services

Airtel customers in UP and Uttarakhand will be able to enjoy superior network coverage, both indoor and outdoor, post the planned deployment from Airtel. With a deployed base of 43,219 sites at the end of FY 17-18, this planned rollout would grow Airtel’s network in UP and Uttarakhand by 40% to 60,532 further enhancing the speeds and voice qualities. The addition of fresh optic fibre would extend Airtel’s fibre backbone in the two states to 26,800 kms in the region, which will support the growth of high-speed data services in the region.

Airtel to Add More Than Two Sites Every Hour in FY19

The massive roll-out would mean the addition of more than two new sites every hour to Airtel’s future-ready network in UP and Uttarakhand. From the total of 17,313 new sites, about 10,138 will be rolled out in UP (East) while 7,175 sites will be deployed in UP (West) & Uttarakhand.

Airtel Has Over 49.6 Million Customers Across UP and Uttarakhand

According to the information provided by Airtel, it has over 49.6 million customers across UP and Uttarakhand, covering 983 towns and 1,24,515 villages across the two states. To recall, in FY 2017-19, Airtel added more than 11,453 new sites being deployed in the UP and Uttarakhand, extending its mobile broadband footprint to 983 towns.
