Bharti Airtel and other telecom operators are shutting down their 3G networks because they are refarming the spectrum to relay 4G services which offer better networks and speeds to the consumers. They cannot shut down 2G because there will be lakhs of POS machines at retail outlets which work only on 2G. It will be a substantial revenue loss.
