The new providers are lining up with optimized plans and even hotter schemes even as subscribers are hesitant from jumping the wagon as they would need to change the number. In another setback of sorts the new operators and existing one will have to hold on for another 4 months as the DoT has pushed the implementation of Mobile Number Portability to 31st Oct. 2010.
DoT can be credited with ensuring the postponement of this important service parameter a third time even as operators are readying to take on far more advanced data services.Once again here is the bad news for Mobile Service users who are waiting for the Mobile Number Portability (MNP). Department of Telecommunication (DOT) has pushed the implementation of MNP third time across all the telecom circles to a delay of some more months from the earlier deadline of June 30, 2010.
According to the new announcement by the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) MNP will now be implemented by October. 31,2010. After ascertaining the status from all the stakeholders on the the readiness of their equipment and MNP gateway, DoT has taken the decision to delay MNP to October 2010.
After the service providers are ready with their own inter-operator test results, a complete Acceptance Test is to be carried out by Department of Telecommunications (DOT) across the networks of all the concerned service providers in all the service areas before MNP launch.
The Mobile Number Portability shall allow mobile subscribers to retain their existing mobile number when they switch from one access service provider to another irrespective of mobile technology (CDMA or GSM) or from one technology to another of the same or any other access service provider within same service area or telecom circle.

gmad July 3, 2010 at 6:46 pm
airtel and vodafone’s under the table arrangement with bsnl, mtnl and DoT are the reasons behind the delay. they are using the loopholes in govt functioning (bsnl, mtl, dot) – i.e no accountability and can take no action, to delay mnp.
it has been already decided and agreed by this powerful lobby to introduce mnp only after introduction of 3G as they can use weapon to retain high end customers!
mnp not expected to be implemented before next 6-9 months! meanwhile this b@$%@%@#$ will keep on delaying under some pretext or the other and no will be ever able to do anything!
so all the excuses and lame reasons of delay are a big farce! f#%^# the indian govt!

DOT should publish a disclosure by mentioning frankly why all the things are getting late. only a press release is not sufficient i think.

This time is very crucial for DOT & for the Patience of the subscribers, who are keenly waiting for MNP..No Mobile operator is able to satisfy a good QOS in all circles..like Airtel is very poor at some places..some subscribers are sick of billing & excessive charging policy..they are waiting for MNP to come..
& this time is the time for Life Question of Dot.. they have to Implement MNP at any cost.. as they can delay..but can’t stop this magical BOON ..MNP
Amit.g July 1, 2010 at 11:35 pm
Will see wat will happen, new companies like Uninor, cheers, videocon,Aircel(new circles) should close their company if MNP wont get implemented. Bcos the only ray of hope for these companies to gain high-end customers(earning) is through MNP.
Starpco July 1, 2010 at 11:24 pm
Good news gupt sutro se pata chala hai ki india me MNP 2012 k bad lagu hogi wo bhi tab jab telecom minister sahab ka man karega tab nahi to 2015 ya 2020 tak to ho hi jana chahiye.

I was so eager that MNP will be launched today!!
These operators should have been ready in 2009 only!
Dot is just taking bribe from big operators because the Big operators are scared as they might lose their customer base!!

Kanha July 1, 2010 at 4:57 pm
DOT v ab Indian Politician ki tarah hi Baate karta hai. I am waiting 4 months for MNP. Par ye v DILfak ho gaya hai, jo ki Telecome Operator k jhase me aa jata hai.
Aashwinikumar July 1, 2010 at 3:26 pm
Hiren July 1, 2010 at 3:18 pm
I request DOT not to issue date until they are ready to launch
delaying in date to ab latakte hue gajar (carrot) ke jause lagta hai
Hiren July 1, 2010 at 3:13 pm
I request to all people who are waiting for MNP please don’t wait for it because it is dot who is very active in collecting money (legal or e legal) like 3G spectrum allocation and Hon.Telecom Minister A.RAJA’s scandal, but they are very slow in issuing service for public benefit like MNP which was going to start in 2009 and still fake promise are coming from DOT and may be it will take few more years because telecom operator’s technical system (money making machine by looking customer with poor services) is not ready and they will surely launch it before 2020
MaNoJ July 1, 2010 at 3:01 pm
Can any technology come in India at time??

What a stupid things being done by DoT.
DoT peoples had shake hand with big operators to delay MNP,
I think all big operator want to delay MNP until 3G spectrum allot to them.
DoT should give a final date to operators strictly. So which operator will be ready at final date, that can start MNP and attract to customer first.
And which operators will not be ready, those can start loosing their customers.
ashish July 1, 2010 at 2:59 pm
MNP stands for mobile number postponebility
MNP will launch after A raja will leave telecom ministry
They never forget the money taking Dead lines,Like tax, mtnl bills
but they are forgeting MNP from last 3 years
Dont know how much money they are getting from cheap operaters………
Firstonnet July 1, 2010 at 2:44 pm
Right now no excuses are avail for DOT to postpone the most awaited services i.e. MNP. MNP Se badhe badhe operator dher ho jaayenge, sabki majboori khatam ho jaayegi, Jo sabhi bade ops ko pata hai, so that they are doing delay in implementing it. Sab log CHOR hai, Jinke haathon mein hamare desh ka administration hai woh sabhi ke sabhi Chor hai
MaNoJ July 1, 2010 at 2:38 pm

@Sanjay Bafna
Ahh thanks for the update.
I was listing my comment based on what I had read at The Hindu businessline
Thanks once again for correcting me ..
Sanjay Bafna July 1, 2010 at 2:32 pm
Right now MTNL is ready for MNP and they successfully tested their infra also. But still new operators are not ready due to delayed security clearance for their telecom equipment.
Praveen Pious July 1, 2010 at 2:16 pm
Something tells me that India will never realize mobile number portability in the near or distant future. One of the operators will surely play spoil-sport. The last time I read, it was MTNL – they haven’t even set up the gateways!!
And even after all this time, just 14 percent of the nation is ready for MNP!
Arun July 1, 2010 at 2:12 pm
Surprisingly as per JS Sharma’s statement on 9th or 10th June, the new date was 30 Sep, 2010. With in 20 days they have changed it again .. kudos to DOT.
Yahan kuch bhi ho sakta hai !!
HARDIK July 1, 2010 at 2:03 pm

sujai July 1, 2010 at 1:53 pm
an idea for DOT “While announcing the dates better dont put the year instead put some **”
like The Daedline for implementing MNP is October 20**
** can be replaced at the time when they really implemet
PDNair July 1, 2010 at 1:46 pm
The DOT itself is hand in glove with the monopolistic old service providers who fear of loosing their chickens ! Anyway hardly there will be new subscribers opting for service providers unless MNP is implemented.
Till then Raja and his Praja can make hay !!!!!
hardeep July 1, 2010 at 1:41 pm
