i rec a msg today from vodafone that your call charges are revised now talk v – to any mobile in india at 1.3 p/sec and LL at 2p/sec. i think idea and voda have increased their call rates. moreover 200 rs plan which gave free 900 local min now only gives 500 min.

I have one more doubt. Say I go for mtnl 3g. Then I need to buy their sim card and data card (jadoo or something). Suppose later I am dissatisfied with mtnl and want to shift to another operator, the mtnl dongle I bought is rendered useless and I need to buy a new dongle from new operator. Is there some way to avoid this? Is there any dongle that suports all operators? Someone please, throw some light on this. I don’t want to invest 1..5k on a dongle only to discard it in two months.

    To Sourav,
In IDEA 3G, you will be charged Rs.0.10 per 10 kb in NATIONAL roaming even if you have enabled any data pack.
I think other operators do not charge extra during ON-NET NATIONAL ROAMING if you select the same home network’s name in roaming (for example : If you use Aircel of a home circle, you should choose AIRCEL network in the roaming location or else you will be charged extra). I am sure of this in the case of MTNL, BSNL, Airtel and Aircel.

“Free data usage available in 3G data packs is not applicable while national and international roaming. Browsing charges of 3p/10KB will apply while roaming on airtel networks in India.”

yes, it is true, its on airtel site now, before that the data pack works in national roaming too with airtel network.

Actually TATA DOCOMO has reduced its prices long back but for only on “trial basis” for prospective customers (Rs.201/2GB). Read this “Special 3G Offer! Recharge karein RC201 se aur payein 2GB 3G data 30 dino keliye. Offer keliye aaj hi recharge karein! Extra benefit recharge ke 48hrs mein”. So still Tata DOCOMO leads the race. If anyone tries TATA DOCOMO 3G once then he/she won’t be moving to other network/service providers. TATA DOCOMO rocks. But still tariff reductions in 3G data services is welcome decision.

now TATA DOCOMO gives 1GB 3G data in rs 90 validity 30 days. Ise sasta koi 3g he kya! MTNL is only in metros

nope. These operators were not fleecing the customers but they have no option but to reduce the rate drastically so as to cover their cost first which they paid excessively for the scarce 3G spectrum and more to develop the 3G infrastructure. Now these operators are hoping more people to switch to 3G by reducing rates.

It doesn’t matter whether Vodafone brings new packs or even provide 1GB for Rs.50 as their 3G network is still not available in more than 75-80% places in Haryana and this includes major cities also. Their expansion is too slow. Trust me, I have roamed through most of the parts in Haryana and it was hard to find Voda 3G network in most of towns. Idea has much better coverage as in every 20-30Kms of area you will find Idea 3G network. Some big villages also have Idea 3G coverage but not any other operator is there. Vodafone is just like BSNL and Tata Docomo in Haryana whose 3G network is restricted to District areas only. Shameless companies.
