Exclusive: Videocon To Shut Down Services in Most Circles

After the cancellation of 2G licenses, it is now turn for Videocon to shut down services in most of the circles where they operate as we came to know from our sources. This is the 3rd operator after STel and Cheers Mobile who went to close operations.

In 2008 Videocon got license and 2G GSM spectrum for 21 circles, and in Punjab they operate as brand sharing agreement between QTL and Videocon. Videocon is commercially available in selected circles like Tamilnadu, Mumbai & Maharastra, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab and Kerala. While 18 circles out of 22 are listed on Videocon’s website to show their minimal presence to meet roll out oligations.

As per our sources, Videocon will shut down their services all circles except those circles having more than 5 lakh customers. The operating circles of Videocon Mobile will be Tamilnadu incl. Chennai, Punjab & Haryana and M.P & Mumbai. Currently M.P has largest Videocon customer base.

Renjith M a TelecomTalk reader and a Videocon customer from kerala cited that recharge is disabled in Kerala for 3 days and most of the FRC (First Recharge Coupon) are withdrawn.

As per our sources now few Selected FRC will be available for the customers in the above mentioned operating circles.

@Vardan, videocon license in punjab was not among those cancelled so it will continue to provide service in Punjab. In the recent auction they won spectrum in 6 circles which are Bihar incl. Jharkhand Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh incl. Chattisgarh, UP East and UP West. So Videocon will provide service in total of 7 circles and in other circles, services will be stopped. Out of these 7, videocon is currently operational in Punjab, Haryana, MP and Gujarat and rest 3 circles will be covered slowly in next 2-3 years but in next one year coverage will be 30-50 percent in rest three.

    Saurabh :

Shailendra :Videocon Mobile has discontinued the recharge services with immediate effect from the following circles – Madhya Pradesh Gujarat Tamilnadu HaryanaNow, only two circles will be active for recharges (Punjab and Mumbai).

You are right. Dealers here stopped recharging after September 7 but recharges are still working using recharge sites like PayTM but only talktime top-ups.
They will never stop recharges in Punjab as company is in brand sharing agreement with Connect there and providing services on their GSM license as majority stake in Quadrant Tele is owned by Videocon. So users in Punjab feel free to be on Videocon until 2024. Can’t say until when Mumbai users get services.

Videocon restarted its STV & VTOPUP reacharge in Gujarat from the 12th October-2012 and all stv and vtop reacharges easily succesfull and also i get average speed 210 kbps (26-27 KBPS) DOWNLOADING SPEED on its True Unlimited GPRS Packs STV 96 Rs. I’m satisfied its service in my city area.

    To all :

Well said. Siju and Bhavin patel, you are right. As I said earlier, Videocon provides cheapest call rate for LOCAL / STD and ISD. Coverage is not present if you move to outer areas from the town.

    For example :
After 2 Kms from Tiruchengode (on the way to Salem which is 45 Kms North, North west from my place), there will be no coverage. Then coverage will be there approx 15 min in between during the journey of 60 minutes. Then after entering Salem city limit, coverage will be good.

    To Videocon :
All your offers are fantastic. Please improve your coverage. There is SUPREME COURT. Please make an appeal soon. IF you do the above thing (coverage), you will be the TOP rated company even ahead of old entrants airtel, vodafone, aircel and BSNL. We subscribers are there for you and at your side (for positive aspects only). Go ahead and file a case.

Surprised to see this information. I am having videocon connection and enjoying it from last one year. Their plans are terrific and recent license issue has made their plan more challenging (benefit to subscribers, its more cheap now). I use to call my relatives in Africa and its quite cost effective. I wish them to continue their services.

Unlike other operators they failed to brought up these offers in the minds of common man because of their lack of concentration in ATL and BTL activities.

It’s good to see videocon continuing their operations in haryana and punjab alongwith some other circles. videocon has got serious in last few months (and mainly after the verdict of SC) in haryana circle as recharges were available with few retailers before but now recharges are easily available. in a statement videocon also suggested that they will not discontinue operations in 5-6 circle where they have installed infrastructure and have good customer base. I’m happy that they are not exitting haryana. videocon is best in call rates, internet speed is 35-40 kilo bytes per sec and coverage is also good in our area.

videocon started my account services yesterday and it’s better than airtel my account.

Videocon provides cheapest tariff (but no coverage in outer places away from the town / city) for
    > local (Rs.25 STV gives unlimited local calling at Rs.0.25 per min and 300 STD min at Rs.0.25 per min)
    .
    > STD (Rs.30 gives the benefit of Rs.0.30 per min calling all over India withiut FUP) and even
    .
    > ISD (only Rs.0.10 per second to some Gulf countries which is the cheapest among the Indian operators for Rs.27 STV with 30 days tariff validity).
    .
They are not punishing the corrupt ministers and closing down the mobile operators thereby punishing the innocent subscribers.
    .
India was already a TECHNOLOGICALLY SLUM country (no proper 3G coverage, costly 3G data tariff etc). Now India has become TECHNOLOGICALLY and TELECOM SLUM country. Shame on ourselves !!!!!!.
