Good article and useful info, RDB!

  • Jitendra August 26, 2013 9:54 pm

    Why not to Australia?

    • Duane Bayliss August 26, 2013 10:27 pm

Coz maximum no. of satellites are used to route calls there + amount of traffic INTO that country is overall much less than US+Canada

  • Esmail August 26, 2013 4:16 pm

Useless plan by Videocon, I would rather use the VOiP app Vonage which is available for both iPhone and Android which offers completely free calling to any Mobile or Landline number in USA, Canada and Puerto Rico for upto 3000 minutes a month. This app works on both wifi as well as 3G and does not require you to spend Rs.105 a month for the STV that Videocon is offering.

    • Duane Bayliss August 26, 2013 10:29 pm

      @ESMAIL –
Everyone doesnt have IPHONES or ANDROID; also everyone doesnt have WIFI to connect!
so how will you call from a non-iphone/android when you are on a road in India?

    • SD August 27, 2013 12:13 am

3000 mins per month every month or just a one-time offer??

      • Duane Bayliss August 27, 2013 10:33 am

Per month, as long as you want to avail you can do so.
However these are usually time-bound offers (and withdrawn by the Operator after they feel they have looted … er earned.. enough.

    • SD August 27, 2013 12:19 am

also Vonage plans need to be bought!! What’s the use of it then!?!

      • Duane Bayliss August 27, 2013 10:34 am

@ SD – exactly – VONAGE for the average Indian user is out of bounds, and then you need WIFI to access (for clear 2-way conversations) OR use 3G (which again costs more).

      • Esmail August 27, 2013 8:14 pm

@SD Vanage is a completely free to use app, you do not need to buy any plan whatsoever to avail your free 3000 minutes per month for calling USA and Canada, every month as long as you wish to use it. Just download the app, register it with your number and start calling right away.
@Duane a majority of the Indian population has shifted to Android and in the coming few months around 90% of the smartphone market will be dominated by Android alone, since they have conquered the low end, mid range and flagship smartphone market. Entry level Androids with 3G are available for Rs.5000. Also 3G prices have fallen to as low as 2G and every smartphone user can now afford to use it.
The amount of data used per minute of VoiP calling works out to be way cheaper than 10p/min being charged by Videocon. So kindly stop misguiding the readers and use facts to support your point.

@Esmail, pls be on ground. Agreed with Bayliss.

  • Saurabh August 26, 2013 3:31 pm

It’s only applicable to calls made to Landlines only in US/Can. My cousin activated this on August 22 after getting SMS from Videocon Haryana. Calls to mobile phones in both counties are charged as normal.

    • Duane Bayliss August 26, 2013 10:30 pm

Yes the article also says that.

      • Saurabh August 28, 2013 11:11 pm

Sorry, I can’t see the word only landline or fixed line in the article. But I need to know where it is written.

  • Sunny August 26, 2013 3:08 pm

    Wow, Great effort by videocon.

    • Duane Bayliss August 26, 2013 10:30 pm

I agree. It was TATA DOCOMO who launched 1p/sec to Usa/Canada.
Now, VIDEOCON have bettered it, with 10p/min.

  • guru August 26, 2013 1:59 pm

wow what an offer this wud have helped me if it was applicable in karnataka as videocon doesnt have services here.

    • Duane Bayliss August 26, 2013 10:31 pm

Wait few more … hmm… decades, they should be available with Videocon in KK.
