Uninor the youngest telecom operator today announced the launch of its GSM Mobile services in 5 telecom circles Mumbai, Maharashtra Goa, Kolkata,West Bengal and Gujarat taking its footprint to 14 telecom circles pan-India.
With this launch, Uninor’s services are now available in 13 telecom circles in India covering the states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh (UP East and West), Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa, Tamil Nadu (Including Chennai), Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat.
Today’s launch takes Uninor’s population footprint to over 900 million pan-India and also marks its debut in the high potential metro telecom circles of the country.
The service was launched in all 5 circles with the radical new concept of Dynamic Pricing (DP). Branded as ‘24X7 Badalta Discount Plan’, DP will offer call discounts that will change from 5% to 60% with location and with time – with each cell phone tower broadcasting a different discount.At the same location, the discount will change every hour. In cities like Mumbai and Kolkata, with daily commute times of as much as 4 hours, this could mean hundreds of varying discount opportunities every day with a better discount only a station away.
“This is a big day for Uninor as we enter some of the most promising and competitive markets of India. We make a start in these markets with Dynamic Pricing – a concept that ends the tariff raj and puts the power in the hands of the customer,” said Stein-Erik Vellan, Managing Director, Uninor. “We are still set on bucking the trend and that is how we will compete – through innovation

uninor’s dynamic plan with a decent discount offer comes out to be quiet economical… well, just have to hope good discount continues…
Amit.G June 5, 2010 at 4:16 pm
@altaf
i guess the fate of new operators like uninor &videocon will be decided only after the implementation of MNP
altaf June 5, 2010 at 3:26 pm
At last after thinking very much I bought uninor ans the DP plan is quite good at the start itself i got 20% discount and network covearge is not a issue at all…If they have launched their services earlier this plan would be hit but at this time very doubtful : )
Amit.G June 5, 2010 at 3:17 pm
Uninor has extended its 24*7 dynamic pricing tariff validity for 365 days in all its circles(old & new). now 48rc comes with 365 days validity
Shoeb June 5, 2010 at 2:13 pm
I Got Uninor sim two days ago for 50 Rs.. The dynamic pricing is just great call charges @ 25 paisa to 40 paisa mostly i get from my home..
Animesh June 5, 2010 at 1:20 pm
Just unable to navigate on the Uninor website it just shows only one page with no navigation options
kaushik June 4, 2010 at 11:23 pm
why u purchased it ?
to use it permanently or just test their network
abhijit June 4, 2010 at 10:56 pm
Today I have purchased a SIM card of UNINOR from my nearest retailer,It’s cost Rs20/- talk-time Rs10/- & as per retailer if I spend Rs5/- within 2 days then after recharge of Rs50/- coupon I shall get Rs55/- as talk time.Here signal strength is quiet OK.
TURKEE June 3, 2010 at 6:03 pm
@Nitin
The discount depends on the traffic load on Uninor tower where a customer is standing. Read previous comments on Dynamic Pricing!!
Nitin June 3, 2010 at 5:53 pm
It would have been better if Uninor has launched a cheaper outgoing charges and more preferably a per second plan instead of changing discount plan. At 50 paise/min charge is higher bcoz it will be very rarely that you will get a 60% discount. I think mostly they will give 10%-15% discount. MTS a new launch in western maharashtra is giving 1 paise per 2 second default to all customers.
Saptarshi June 3, 2010 at 4:22 am
Can you believe this? Telenor gifted the world with the Opera browser and here in India as Uninor, they completely forgot about the Internet!
Amit.G June 2, 2010 at 8:06 pm
uninor claims tat acess to facebook is free but it is not true, in my phone face app is preloaded, when i surfed amount got deducted
Sandy Berger June 2, 2010 at 7:26 pm
ANOTHER BIG LACUNA – NO INTERNET ON UNINOR…Kya samajh ke rakha hai Mumbai ko…
vicky June 2, 2010 at 6:46 pm
Even Videocon (mumbai) is offering its Schemes like 1p/sec in Vodafone maharashtra network while roaming in maharashtra. then no use of buying uninor sim if they are not offering same tariff while roaming in maharshtra. so sad. i think this is a big disadvantage for uninor as many people travel to neadrby areas like virar, ulhasnagar,badlapur, karjat which comes under maharashtra circle (ind 929)

Some body please tell me where in Uninor’s web site speak about Mumbai tariff. I gone through Uninor web site and no where it says about Mumbai plan/tariff. How my number will come?
TURKEE June 2, 2010 at 3:30 pm
@Webly
Till now no sims available in Mumbai as well……I saw Uninor sales persons still distributing retailer Etop sims. Kab aayega Mumbai ka Number??
Debanjan June 2, 2010 at 3:29 pm
If u find difficult in getting signal(indoor and outdoor) don’t worry, talk to ur distributor for tuning. Tuning means RADAR and RECEIVER must be set up properly for signal strength. Once u told to ur distributor, they called to network dept for again signal check in ur area. U ll find that somebody has come to check signal with a Laptop and a pre loaded GPS machine. remember one think that one GSM tower can max coverage is 5 kms where as one CDMA tower can provide max 25 kms for signal.
In my area IDEA tower have some signal problem, I called to distributor and with in 15 days the problem gone. I am getting full signal everywhere.
Sandy Berger June 2, 2010 at 3:28 pm
Turkee- “keeps customer in control as to when he should make a call” – only if there is a signal in the air. Yes – keeps in control – as customer cannot make call.
TURKEE June 2, 2010 at 3:22 pm
Uninor’s Dynamic Pricing can be viewed ‘Through Cell Info Display’ & ‘Before making a Local call’
Good Initiative, really keeps customer in control as to when he should make a call.

waiting for some latest buzz on Maharashtra-Goa Circle Uninor launch on TT…..
Debanjan June 2, 2010 at 3:11 pm
I am telling u one things guys that none of the private gsm company has set up their tower in their own cost. Every body s sharing tower from INDUS TOWER GROUP. they have installed tower everywhere. So it is not a problem if Uninor sharing with Vodafone or Docomo or may b others. that doesn’t matter. If u think that docomo or voda tower is not in ur area, don’t worry, on next day u ll see uninor signal because INDUS tower gave permission to installed uninor quipment into Airtel/Aircel tower.
On 1st phrase of signal strength ,metro and semi urban area covered and on second phrase rural area covered. So as a new entry in to market we have to wait at least 6 months to get good signal strength.(can u told me that Hutch and Airtel provide best signal from their date of launch with in 1 yrs?)
Webly June 2, 2010 at 3:11 pm
Till now (3:00 pm) there is no news of Uninor SIM cards available and also i cant search any signal (404-929) in my area (Cuncolim-Goa).
Signal can be searched only in major places like Margao, Mapusa, Vasco and Panaji in Goa.

what is the plan of uninor in kolkata ?????????
TURKEE June 2, 2010 at 2:09 pm
@Animesh
I agree with you. I had shared the launch of Vodafone in J & K, it was done in same way. Its the USP of Vodafone. Whenever they launch a new circle or new zone, they follow the same process. I am looking forward with their launch in 3G!!
Animesh June 2, 2010 at 1:54 pm
The best launch we ever say was the transition of BPL Mobile to Hutch way back in 2006
Till the previous day even the websites were not updated no signages no bill boards etc,overnight the entire city was covered with all hucth adds and signages
soumya June 2, 2010 at 1:30 pm
UNINOR SIGNAL IS VERY BAD, NO INDOOR COVERAGE. NO SIGNAL. SIGNAL STRENGHT IS VERY WEEK( BURDWAN- DURGAPUR– WEST BENGAL)
SIGNAL IS VERY WEAK. HARDLY 2 SIGNAL OUTDOOR. NO SIGNAL INDOOR. RETAILER ASKING CUSTOMER WHERE WILL THEU USE UNINOR SIM ( OUTDOOR OR INDOOR ).
UNINOR WILL FACE DIFFUCULTY IN FINDING CUSTOMER. AB MERA NUMBER AAYEGA KYA?,…….,,,,
Avishek Ghosh June 2, 2010 at 12:13 pm
Today uninor give an add in the leading bengali news paper Anandabazar….the first two pages are totally filled with Uninor colour add…..& BTW the last page of same paper is filled with docomo add also….so 3 out of 12 pages of Anandabazar Patrika is filled with telco adds……..what a way of expenditure by telco’s…are bhai iss paisa ko network achha korne pe lagao…add se sim sell hota hai lekin ARPU nehi aata…..just try to follow MTS…..they are concentrating on n/w quality,not in adds….

Very funny, how do know all?????????????????????
In my area Uninor, Idea are sharing same tower of Vodafone.In my area TTDM have no tower around 1Km. Even their signal strength is better than DOCOMO as they are sharing network with other. It is the point that as a new born child Uninor is giving such service.I got the information from a employee of Uninor.
santu June 2, 2010 at 6:41 am
Till now uninor haven’t updated their website. That’s very poor & pathetic.
santu June 2, 2010 at 6:26 am

Uninor isn’t using docomo network. They have already build up their own network. Check 405 822 using manual network search. That’s uninor network. In ROB, 405 880 is uninor network.

@Sanjay Bafna
It is the right time to highlight on various progress on handset industry both GSM and CDMA as well as multi sims phones Mr. Bafna. Now it is all set evidently no more price reduction on tariffs, no more MNP implementation, no more fierce competition and on the other hand we can very soon expect consolidation of mobile telecom industry and price increase and reduction or cutting of freebie services from telecoms. It is also the right time for the consumers to grab the best tariffs with lifetime validity of various service providers as sooner or later the tag of lifetime validity will become the thing of the past for the best tariffs now being enjoyed by the subscribers. Hereafter, at least you can bring in the latest developments on the handset industry and current prevailing prices of such handsets.

Thanks for the tip FYI we are still testing our social networking site http://telecomtalk.net talking about a separate website for handset we did try to build one but we didnt find a suitable TTDL most of the domains name like mobiletalk.info are already registered have to wait until they get expire
TURKEE June 1, 2010 at 2:38 pm
Suggestion For Telecom Talk
Mr. Bafna, can we have seperate website for catching info on Handset industry as well?? Or you can club it into Telecom Talk. But it would be better as first option. I thought about it coz telecom talk does not cover Mobile Handset industry completely like we have seperate Icons of Telecom companies, you can incorporate Handset companies as well like Nokia, Samsung, Etc etc. Its the best time to diversify Telecom talk!! What is your opinion friends??
