TRAI Strict On Pesky Calls & SMS, 22769 Individual Customers Disconnected

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today said that total 22769 subscribers have been disconnected for making pesky calls or messages through individual numbers.

TRAI is monitoring and enforcing the regulations for protection of customers from Unsolicited Commercial calls and SMSs.

According to TRAI after implementation of regulations on 27th September 2011, 36156 subscribers have been issued notices and 22769 mobile/telecom subscribers have been disconnected. In case of telemarketers, in 94 cases telemarketers have been penalized. Also, 4 telemarketers have been blacklisted.

“As per the regulations, if unsolicited commercial calls and SMSes are sent from individual numbers, notice will be served to the customer and his number will be disconnected on second violation,” TRAI said in a statement.

Registered telecom subscribers receiving marketing or unwanted commercial calls or messages may lodge their complaint by dialing or sending SMS to 1909.

    Firstonnet :
What everyone think this kind of action will stop unwanted calls & sms? After disconnection are these telemarketers avoid to disturb dnd subscribers? Or they will opt new connections & start disturbing dnd subs more aggressively? What all of u think on such TRAI’s action. Would u think telemarketers will leave to calls & sms to india’s biggest, developed market? Pl post ur views here

Why would they disturb subscribers more aggressively? I dont think that will happen .TRAI is working in maximum level to reduce telemarketing calls. Don’t you feel so? What more they can do to stop pesky calls?

    Mustan :
You may register a complaint regarding receipt of unsolicited commercial
communications by sending SMS to 1909 in the specified format given
    below:
“COMP TEL NO XXXXXXXXXX, dd/mm/yy, Time hh:mm”
Where XXXXXXXXXX – is the telephone number or header of the SMS,
as the case may be, from which the unsolicited commercial
    communication has originated.
